Anniversary Dinner at del Frisco's?

by Chris Lindy » Tue Jul 06, 2010 3:06 pm

I'm trying to talk my wife into anniversary dinner at del Frisco's. I'm ashamed to admit that her first second, and only decision points are to do with the dessert menu. The restaurant website is not showing any dessert listings, so I am left to wonder what (if any) they offer. Can someone who has been recently fill me in?

We usually save Del Frisco's for our anniversaries too. The last couple of times they had Kentucky Silk Pie and a few other choices, but I'm not sure what they were. Enjoy!

When I went they had Creme Brulee. I don't usually eat desserts, but this one was memorable.

Last time I went they had several selections. From memory there were a couple standards, but the rest were rotating desserts.

Just got home from del Frisco's and feel the need to make this post despite this being my anniversary. After an uncomfortable welcome, I absolutely have to go out of my way to thank Vince for all his generosity, understanding, and first-class attitude.

One of the deciding elements for giving del Frisco's a try is that they were advertising on restaurant.com. Unbeknownst to us before arrival, del Frisco's had stopped their relationship with the website and had no desire to continue honoring those certificates. Long story short, we were disappointed and contemplating dining somewhere else because, frankly, the reviews had been mixed for dF.

I am very grateful to Vince for honoring our certificate and for being convinced to stay and try their establishment. An awkward start to the evening ended in a fantastic anniversary dinner with good food, good drink, and (obviously) good company. I had never tried aged steak and thought the filet was very well done and tender. I don't know if the aged flavor is my favorite, but it was very good. The "Phunque" was rich and gluttonous. The dessert of the day, a chocolate ganache tort with raspberries, vanilla ice cream, and Chambord, was quite good as well.

As good as the meal was, Vince is the reason we will be back. He and his family seem to be good people that the city should support. Thanks to him again for a wonderful evening. Boo to restaurant.com for not cancelling gift certificate sales when asked.

Don't tell me they aren't going to honor those!?!?! I JUST bought a $50 one last month in anticipation of celebrating (getting a teaching job).

So did I, and they are still for sell.

Yeah, if my experience was any indication, you'll have to fight to get them to honor the certificate. While Vince was willing to work with us, the older lady (that I've heard others mention) had dug her heels in.

It's a tough spot for owners, I am sure, and something I'd bet has been discussed here in the past. I know I've read of this issue with restaurant.com before and it stinks when you find the one establishment that has opted out while the website continues to sell certificates. I don't know who is in the wrong here (the restaurant or the website), but in the end both look bad.

I've had problems with those certificates too. There seem to be a lot of places around town that no longer honor them. I've found that it's best to call ahead and ask first.

I talked with one of the owners yesterday, and she said they are "done with restaurant.com". I think they over sold certs or something and it isn't pretty. I've talked with several restaurants over the last 2-3 yrs that have had the same situation.

The owners, including Audrey, are really good people. I've always enjoyed the food at del Frisco's, as well as the atmosphere because of Audrey, Cathy & Vince - they make everyone feel welcome!

You should call before going, but I wouldn't count on using the cert.

On the restaurant.com issue, you can contact them and let them know that the restaurant has stopped accepting the certificates, and they will credit your account to buy a certificate with another restaurant. I had to do that when Artemesia closed, and it was a smooth process.
