Sushi Classes/Sushi instructors?

by Melissa Richards-Person » Tue Jul 10, 2007 2:57 pm

Hi everyone!

We've done a "make your own Sushi party" with friends twice now, and it's always the party with more laughter and fun than any in the year!

But, while the flavors were good, and the fish was wonderful, thanks to some ordering ahead by our friends at the old Seafood Connection, the sushi itself looked like some Salvador Dali interpretation of sushi. Not always the best finale after all that work!

So, having determined that the method of simply photocopying and passing out the step-by-step instructions in sushi books, may not be the best, I thought the next time we tried this party we might see if we could hire a sushi instructor to come and teach us.

Any suggestions? No party date as of yet, this is something we are just kicking around....

I would think you could hire one of the local sushi guys on the side to "cater" your party.

...we will also work for booze.
it's a party right?

if it's anything to note, i rolled sushi daily for almost a full year when i started at Asiatique. (back when 'assorted sushi' was on the menu).

...i rolled some at the hotel a few weeks ago; i'm a little rusty and out of practice - but i still got it! :D

I put vegetables in your desserts, white chocolate with your fish and other nonsense stuff that you think shouldn't make sense, but coax the nonsense into something that makes complete sense in your mouth. Just open your mind, mouth and eat.

You're right - it's a party!

Food and drink would of course be included!

However, it should be noted, we would hope that you would not have to roll all the sushi yourselves, but that you would coach the "grasshoppers" who are attempting to do it themselves as well.....probably to your great amusement :-)

When there is sake flowing, it's all OK :-)
