Lonnie's Best of Chicago NOT going in to old Zap's

by Robin Garr » Tue Jul 10, 2007 11:49 am

I have to go in the general direction of downtown and had a hankering for a hot dog, so I called Lonnie's to see if they had opened in the old Zap's yet.

Bad news: They're not going to do it. The owners of the building that the former Zap's was in apparently "sold it out from under them," leaving Lonnie's looking for a different location for a downtown venue.

They're looking at a place on Fifth Street now, but no specific plan or schedule.

Does this mean that Zap's is permanently, irrevocably closed.

I have no inside knowledge, Charles, but I've always assumed that since the day that they locked the doors, turned out the lights and walked away without saying good-bye. To the best of my knowledge, resurrection has never been in the cards.
