I'm not sure if there is a local source. I know that Commander's Palace in New Orleans gets the turtle meat they use in their soup from farm sources across the Southern US. My understanding is that it's shipped to them already cleaned and picked over in frozen blocks.

Good luck!

You might try some of the larger Asian markets around town, including Choi's in Lyndon and Da Hua or Oriental Supermarket & Gift Shop on Preston.

There are plenty of Turtles here in the Bluegrass......I get mine from local horse farms that have ponds....There are several people that trap them and clean them right here!!!!!!!

I can't even prepare my own fish, so I'm fairly certain cutting up my own snappers is a no go. They are plentiful in ponds locally so the more adventure-minded don't have this supplier problem.
The only source I could find online was a New Orleans area meat market. Maybe they will ship.

You might want to call John Dillion @ 974-6419
I've gotten some from him or try Bluefin seafood

Where does St. Matthews get all their turtle meat for that big turtle soup thing they do every year?

That's Bethel-St. Paul United Church of Christ at the corner of St. Matthews Avenue and Shelbyville Road. St. Matthew's is an Episcopal church, and a damn good one too, but we don't have any turtle soup. ;)

I wonder where they get it too. Also, doesn't Cunningham's still have turtle soup on the menu? Maybe put out a call to the church and ask?

Blue fin doesn't do retail but directed me to seafood connection who, unsurprisingly, orders it from bluefin. Awaiting the quote.

Bethel's men club gets it shipped from a supplier in michigan, secretary wasn't sure of company name and is also calling me back.

I will post when I figure out the options and cost. I'd hate to have to resort to burgoo.
