Bard's Town Pub?

by Dan Thomas » Sun Jun 13, 2010 11:47 am

I was perusing Facebook and saw a link for this place. Dinner theater in the Highlands?

http://www.facebook.com/thebardstown

Anyone have the inside scoop? It sounds pretty ambitious.
The address listed is the old Fat Cat's/Baja Bay/Judge Roy Bean's/ Big Daves Outpost buliding on the corner of Speed and B-town Rd.

I had some Email from Eve Lee on that ... I thought she was going to post here. Let me dig around and see. It's the old Fat Cats/Baja Bay/Judge Roy Bean's/Big Dave's place.

I posted about a rumor about a restaurant opening there in July (I can see it out my window as I type), but it wasn't a dinner theatre; they must have changed new owners or business plans. I can tell you that there has been a lot of activity i.e. construction vehicles and contractor's vehicles, rented dumpsters and the kitchen door open to the outside with lots of industrious noises from within. I'm fascinated to find out how it turns out!

I understand from previous owners that parking for that corner lot is a nightmare
( neighborhood assoc., businesses, etc..).

They do have their own small parking lot, though. 10 spaces, I think.

I believe that Joe Gadansky, who was one of the cooks on the opening staff of Club Grotto with me (way back in the 20th century) is doing the food. Joe's a good guy, and I'm looking forward to trying the place.

I'm here, Robin!

Here's my writeup from about a month ago:

http://www.louisville.com/content/tale- ... -highlands

Quoth Doug Schutte: 'It is not dinner theatre. There is drink service and basically a prix fixe menu, but the dinner and the lounge are separate and self-contained as far as that goes.'

I dropped in there a few weeks ago and took a look around. Yes, it's very ambitious, but they really seem to know what they're doing, especially with having Joe Gadansky at the helm in the kitchen. Hooks aside, the food may ultimately be what gets people coming back again and again. I personally am really looking forward to this.

Eve, I personally enjoyed the way you wrote that piece. An interview wrapped in the conceptual theme of the establishment. It really gave much more depth to the thought processes behind thier efforts, while keeping the reader engaged. Nice work!

Thanks. I couldn't resist.

A bit disappointed they aren't going to appoint the building with a thatched roof, though.

Hello, all! Doug Schutte from The Bard's Town. Excited to see a little chatter about our humble enterprise. I am finalizing the menu, and should have it posted on our website (thebardstown.com) by Sunday evening for you to check out.

The first floor--which houses the main dining room (seating 60) and the lounge (with 34 seats and a small stage)--will open between July 9 and July 15. If there is no hold up from permitting on our last bit of demo work, the date will be July 9.

The 2nd floor, housing a 70-seat theatre with table seating, will open a bit later. The theatre will be home to a resident theatre company that will be dedicated to new work, as well as to a number of local theatre companies looking for a new permanent home and most likely the inKY series. We will also book local music acts in the space, and even have developed our own live game show!

As far as Bardstown Road parking goes, we think we compare pretty well to other venues.

We hope to see you there!
