Boston, anyone?

by Greg Gapsis » Mon Jul 09, 2007 8:14 pm

Will be in Boston (other than the airport) for the first time next week and would like to hear any recommendations about good cafes and/or seafood places.

Prefer centrally located, as I prefer being able to walk or easy transit connections from Beacon Hill area, but can haul car out of the muni garage if necessary.

The No Name Restaurant is great for fresh not expensive seafood. Not exactly centrally located, but easy to get to via public trans. or cab.
If you get your car out try Blue Ginger, Ming Tsai's restaurant in Wellesley. Oh my god it's amazing!

I used to love The Daily Catch aka The Clamari Cafe in the North End when I lived in Boston years ago. The restaurant is the size of a shoebox and they serve your food in the pan it was cooked in. The place smells amazing. Not walkable from Beacon Hill, but easy to get to via the T or by cab. The North End is also a great place to take an after-dinner, site seeing walk. http://www.dailycatch.com/323hanover.html

Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market are also within walking distance once you are there. http://www.faneuilhallmarketplace.com/

Speaking of Boston, could we have a moment of silence for Brad Delp, lead singer for the band. Unfortunate and untimely death due to depression?? No other voice can compare........

if you go to the North End you should check out Neptune Oyster Bar. I had a great meal there last year.

We were there last month. Stephanie's on Newberry is fantastic. Everything on their menu looked wonderful. They are well known for their lobster pot-pie. You must try Assagios in the North End. It is within walking distance to Beacon Hill, Fanueil Hall, etc. We were sent there by a clerk on Newberry street. We ate there two nights in a row. It is a real-life mob restaurant. (Just like the Sopranos) The food is true Italian and so are the regulars. For high quality chain seafood, they have Legal Seafood. It is in downtown in Copley Place or there are several other Boston locations. Beer Works of Boston is great for high-end bar food. They also have some award winning brews.
