Backyard BBQ Contest - June 18th and 19th

by Steve P » Wed Jun 09, 2010 3:31 pm

If anyone is so inclined the Jeffersonville "Smokin' on the River" Blues and BBQ Celebration (June 18th and 19th) has a "Backyard BBQ" division...The entry fee is only $35 and there are 5 meat categories, including Steak. You do not have to cook all categories to participate. Not sure what the prize structure is but it might be a fun time for anyone who wants to see how their "Q" stacks up...or wants to settle a "grudge match" with a friend or neighbor. For more info, here's the link:

Kinda flashed back to my " party " cove days with that quote 8)

All fun aside I should see you there sometime that weekend, buddy of mine is doing sound for some of the bands.

While I realize the contestants cannot sell their Q, will there be vendors selling barbecue? I so we don't want to go to a barbecue competition and eat hamburgers!

Mark,

I'm going to have to check on the vending thing and get back to you. I believe I read that they were going to have three BBQ vendors this year (up from one last year). While you are correct in your statement about the teams not being able to sell "Q" to the general public, we -can- let "friends and family members" sample our wares. If you come on down after 1:30pm on Saturday the 19th (post turn in) we'll try our best to get some BBQ in ya.

I wasn't at last years contest...had to pull out at the last minute due to a family emergency...but I've heard from several sources that it was something of a cluster f... Which is not unusual for a first year contest. The heat, humidity, lack of vendors, etc, etc. apparently left a lot to be desired. While they can't do anything about the weather, I'm certain they've taken steps to solve some of the other issues. Should be a good time, I just hope the weather cooperates.
