Meridian cafe

I probably missed a topic about this. Noticed Meridian Cafe is getting sprucing up. Fantastic! It is one of our favorite restaurants...that we love being able to walk to. When will this "makeover" be finished?

I'm sure it's related to this thread:

Heather has sold out her share in Meridian to Mike Ross, the chef, and his wife Katie. I guess now that they're sole owners they'll move the furniture around a little.

Any chance they are putting in handicapped access? Sorry but it's one of my pet peeves.

"Reasonable accommodation" offers a business a little wiggle room when it comes to older properties, Mark, but certainly there's enough yard space to make an extended ramp theoretically feasible. Why not call Chef Mike and make the case?

Thanks, I think I will. The reasonable accommodations portion provides wiggle room for some changes but access is an area where there is very little wiggle room. The only exception is because of space which is not an issue here. Things can be delayed because of cost considerations but still must be done within a reasonable amount of time.

Sounds like you've got the knowledge and the words to articulate it, Mark, and I expect any good local restaurateur - especially a restaurant with a demographic mix that includes an older population - ought to be highly receptive.

If you call, let the forum know how you're received. ;)

I might add that restaurants can achieve access on a comfortable basis by working with, say, a deck builder rather than a pricey consultant who claims ADA expertise. The rules aren't complicated - angle, width, handrail and periodic flat spots on longer ramps, but it doesn't take a post-graduate education for a good carpenter to find out how to do it.
