Fresh Produce Warehouse - closing? moving? info?

by Matthew D » Sat Jun 05, 2010 3:04 pm

Sure seemed like a closing sale when I visited today. Place was almost empty and the prices were marked as "priced to move." All clues pointed to the place closing, most noticeably the pricetags on infrastructure pieces like the shelves. No explicit sign that read "closing sale," but sure seemed that way.

Only shopped there once, but I was excited to get back there today. Was happy with much of the produce I purchased there. Did notice some of the product seemed a little old on my first visit, but most was of high quality and tasted above average (compared to Kroger, Value, etc.)

Any info, folks? I'm talking about the place on Taylorsville past Breck...
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

Was there as well and ran into Carol C. and Bob C. there and they relayed that it was a closing sale :| and had worked out a couple of bargain deals with the owner/manager. I took advantage of some excellent prices on things we didn't need but would probably use in the near term. Sorry to see it go. Had just heard about it from Bill and Susi at Shady Lane  over breakfast this morning.

The story through the grapevine is the original manager died just after opening. The new manager apparently did not have the experience needed. We know people that were told they were out of a job as of Thursday 6-03. :(

Bob stopped in there yesterday after trying to go to TJ Maxx and the produce people told him that they were going out of business, but the electricity was out in the shopping center, so we went in today to case it. Things were pretty picked over but still lots of bargains to be had. It was fun running into Bill and Alan and the "deal" Bill referred to was the fennel. The fennel looked pretty good so I asked a manager-looking guy the price. After asking me if I wanted a case, to which I replied "no", he said just take all that is in the bin for $2.00! Now I find myself with 6 or 7 bulbs of fennel!!! Anyone have great recipes or know if it can be frozen after roasting or sauteing?

Also, the check-out person said today was the last day of business so anyone may want to check before running out there.

Susie, I heard that the original manager was found dead, of natural causes, the morning that they were suppose to open. Don't know, that may be just a good story!?!?

This really DOES suck (to more or less borrow a phase). The place was a little removed from our place in the O.C. but it was certainly a welcome addition and/or alternative to other options.
