Check's Remodeling

by Suzi Bernert » Mon Jul 09, 2007 2:35 pm

Drove by Check's today and noticed that it was closed and being worked on. We spoke to a friend who knows everything Germantown and he said they are remodeling. Looks like they are redoing everything. Don't know when they will reopen, but I hope they don't lose the "atmosphere"!!

I drove by over the weekend--completely gutted. I couldn't tell if it was Check's or another place going it. Good to hear it is check's.

Maybe it is a good time to get all the accumulated smoke off the walls for a new day!

I was going to post something about this, im glad someone beat me to it! From the look of the construction i thought for sure that they had closed down or gone out of business.... glad to hear it is only a renovation!

I have a confession to make... i desparatly want to get my hands on the dilapidated, Falls City-themed "Check's Cafe" lighted sign that hangs out front. Anyone know if they will be replacing it in the renovation??

My parents met there 26 years ago, and as ive mentioned before, my dad has quite the collection of FC memorabilia on their back patio. Long story short, their 25th anniversary is coming up this fall and i could hardly imagine a more appropriate gift to proudly display in their backyard. The neighbors would be elated, im sure :)

Its a long shot, but if anyone knows anything about the future of this relic, let me know!!!

The sign out front says that Check's is to re-open on Wed 7/11 but seeing what still needs to be done that might be a stretch.

My guess is that the remodel is all interior, so the sign will stay. If you are interested you can ask Dr. Tom Murrow, the owner or his son John, the manager.

Check's remodeling

Just an update-

Check's re-opened on Friday 7/13. They have done a nice job of updating the place without making it unrecognizable. The complete job is not finished yet but they're well on their way.

BTW, that distinctive Check's aroma is gone(at least for now).

I wonder, seriously, if they decided the new no-smoking ordinance made this a good time to get a half-century of tobacco stench out of the walls.
