FADB or just F-Bad?

by BrianW » Mon Jul 09, 2007 1:18 pm

OK, have to say our first time to FABD this Saturday was terrible. My wife and I had made repeated plans to go try it since Robins article a few weeks back, and finally made it.

I wish we could say the same glowing comments made about this place in the article, but our food was terrible, and the service indifferent. The 1/2 rack rib dinner served had to be leftovers. That's the only conclusion since they were very tough, dry and cool inside. I make ribs here at the house frequently in my smoker and know how to spot a reheated product, it had all the hallmarks thereof. Accompanying sides were lackluster and cool. The brisket sandwich was hot, but it was doused heavily in sauce and I could not discern much about it. The server made no attempt to offer an explanation for the foods lack of appeal or offer another dish, she just said the cook was 'too busy' to stop by for a minute. "Too busy to stop by'. We left soon after, and went to where we always get good food, Bourbon Brothers.

Regards,
Brian

Brian.

Sounds like you had a very rare and terrible experience. I have had the ribs and brisket numorous times at the beer depot and in fact it was the smell of their food that made me fall off my last veggie wagon. <<< back to two packs of bacon a day now!

Do yourself a favour and speak to the owner Robbie and give it one more chance. I'm sure you will have a better experience next time

I have no interest in going back, nor does my wife. Their loss, as we choose BBQ more than any other for eating out.

Robin's Comments from Review
Not only are the ribs here possibly the best I’ve tasted yet, but even the side dishes bespeak the presence of a very serious cook. In simple terms, if the environment bothers you, buy takeout, or walk your plate out to the big picnic tables in the small, walled beer garden. But go. Get some ribs. And some sides. You will not be sorry.

Well, either one you are wrong or you are friends with B Brothers and are conducting covert operations , unfortunately, I'd have to go with Robin's food cred all other things being equal and having not tried the place myself

btw, I would say it's not unsual or more likely it is common that most rib joints do not and couldn't possibly (logistically speaking) serve all of their ribs fresh from the smoker.

No other BBQ we've ever visited has ever served as poor a product as FABD to us this Saturday, not Bakes, not B.Bros, not Champion (come back!), not FireFresh, etc., none.

I draw the line at an obviously reheated product and NO attempt to rectify/explain, not even "I'm sorry". I've pulled ribs off my smoker and served them hours later just wrapped well in foil, they are still (1) hot, and (2) tender; they have no resemblance to the junk FABD had on Saturday afternoon. Every place has bad days, but the total indifference of the staff placed the last straw that day. And yes I do know the owner of Bourbon Brothers, he helped me refine my home smoker setup and procedures when they had their short-lived outpost on this side of the river.

Brian.

I understand how you feel and I'm not sure I wouldn't react the same way but I can attest that the ribs and other foods have always been out of this world when I have eaten there.
