732 Social - Above and Beyond and Beyond

by JustinHammond » Wed Jun 02, 2010 9:01 am

What started as a quick “drink and dessert” stop turned into one of the greatest restaurant experiences of our lives. The wife I and I enjoyed a fabulous dinner at the Blind Pig and decided to stop at 732 Social for a slice of red velvet/carrot cake and a few cocktails to finish the night. We arrived around six, took seats at the bar, and watched the kitchen work. We went with the bartenders recommendations on the drinks and were not disappointed. As we were demolishing our cake a management looking gentleman began to chat us up. He asked us where we had dinner, where we were from, and how the cocktails and drinks were. The conversation led to the big ass ribeye and that we were scared of it. He assured us there was nothing to fear and pulled one from the fridge. 32 ounces of meat heaven staring us in the face. He then proceeds to wrap the thing up and give it to us. Only one string attached, send him an email and let him know how we liked it. How awesome is that? We ordered another round and he pulled up a bar stool and the conversation continued. He starting telling us about Social’s farms, where they are in 100% control of the beef, chicken, and vegetable quality. They decide the exact day the cows and chickens are harvested. You will notice the chickens at Social are very small, that’s because they like the flavor and texture of smaller birds. Just as the conversation is dying off, we are offered a tour of the “Green Building”. Another cocktail and we were on our way. The building is fantastic. It has a living wall, roof top herb garden, rain water recycling system, solar panels, electric car ports, recycled barn wood, and a fantastic view of the city. As the tour concluded, the unknown gentlemen handed me his business card. It read:

Does it get any better?

Yes, yes, yes....we had a fine dinner there last evening. It's become an early in the week spot for the family because it's not crowded and the pace is nice. Try the beignets...they are coated with powdered sugar, crack, and are served hot with honey and apple butter!

What night did you go?

Jayson is a great guy, a class act and 732 Social is one of the best in the city in my opinion. You have to be in the right mind set for the volume, but I love it.

There was not any noticable music playing and the place was rather peaceful at 6:00. I think the noise becomes an issue later in the evening.

Had the opportunity to try 732 Social Friday evening while at the gallary hop. Very impressed. For such a small venue, the do VERY well. The bar was packed, the tables were full, the staff was all smiles, not a bit of stress showing. I would have been going nuts!

The selections on the cheese samplier would have made a wonderful lite meal unto itself....needed some fruit, but the plentiful amount of Blue Dog bread made up for that. Enjoyed that with two very well made cocktails

I had a very tasty Bass dish....Now it did arrive "head on" to which when I turned up my nose, the waiter wisked it away with a "I'll have the chef clean and prep it for you". I didn't even have to ask (must not have been the first time that happened). It was perfectly prepared, with subtle seasoning as to not mask the bass taste.

Alan had the bowl of Mussels, and man when I say bowl, I mean BOWL. Wonderfully prepared with fennel and a butter and garlic broth (I'm sure there were other things in it but those where the most pronounced).

Now, we didn't have room for dessert and were planning on "hopping" around Market street, so we didn't linger after the meal....it was a wonderful experience and we have already decided that we are going to go back.

With tip it was $100....a bit more than I usually like to spend on dinner, but I've done more damage than that at lessor places!
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!
