Loving Kentucky

by Stephen D » Sun May 30, 2010 9:17 pm

It's moments like these, that remind me why I love our terrior...

The first band of rain has passed. The earth gives up her fragrant kiss- reminding you that you are child of this land.

Off in the distance, the thunder rolls, letting you know the next wave will be coming soon.

Off in the distance, the sun falls, letting you know that the light will give way to night.

Off in the distance, you can feel in your bones the cooler temperatures coming.

This is the beauty of child-born, of being attached to a place, from birth. It is a beautifull thing- we all have it. Instinctual, it is the comfort that we seek above all. It fills our cups and plates and- whether we know it or not- our souls.

I think I'll open the windows to enjoy this storm more properly...

This is why I love us. Our soft-moments. Our soulfull fullfilments. Our attatchment to our river, our steeds and ourselves...

Here is a little tip. Everyone look back at your topics. If you, like Stephen account for 90% of the replys to your own topics, nobody cares about what you are talking about.

Whoa, Holmes, what the hell are you talking about?

I offered up a little prose to the community. It's not meant to be replied to, just enjoyed. Something to remind us all about the beauty of our ties to the land.. VERY foodie. A new angle on what we do here as well. I went back and made the second post because I thought of adding a layer of music- I sought out that song. I could have edited my OP, but no- I wanted people who cared to understand that the thought gave rise to the song, not the other way around.

Understand that I put myself out here and it's not easy to do. Give it the shot, sometime and you'll get what I am talking about. Some of my ideas are home-runs. Sometimes a swing-and-miss. But at least I am at the plate, trying.

By the way, welcome to the site. Here's a tip for you: get to know us all before you go yanking on the devil's tail. What will now happen is I will go through a 2-4 week period where I explore terrior, inspired by this simple moment. If you have any fresh insights on the subject, then post them- I'll be the first to pat you one the back. If not, then stay off mine.

I thought it was poetic, and I enjoyed it.

I care what Stephen is talking about!

I started sleeping with all the blinds open, (I have three floor to ceiling windows, and a door) and when I wake up in the morning, I wake up to a wall of green trees, and birds singing like crazy.

It sure as hell beats listening to sirens, car alarms, and garbage trucks that I used to listen too!

If everybody can enjoy the experiences like we do, some people might be less touchy!

Hey Stephen, don't sweat that guy. As a recent returnee to the land of my birth I know exactly what you're talking about. Something hard to describe that happens to those of us with an open enough mind/heart to let those feelings blossom inside us.
Anyway, don't be too mad at that guy. He sounds like a garden variety internet troll, and if either of us was stuck in our mom's basement somewhere in Jersey we might act the same way...

Although not born here, we fell in love with Kentucky over 10 years ago. I love your sentiment and shared it last night, as I watched the storm clouds come in.

Most of the time, I'm waaaaay too intimidated to post on Hot Bytes. But, that post was spot on.

Aw, Shannon, don't be. The natives are friendly, except for the ones we keep in cages ... :)

Easy to see why the Cherokee (at least, I think it was the Cherokee) thought that the area south of the Ohio River was haunted. Beautiful and mystical even after 400 years+ of development.
Oh, and as a second thought, unlike on some web forums, since I have met many of the posters on LHB I DO care what they post and take into consideration what they think. Trolls are easily ignored however.

Ah yes, the storms...we do love the storms. My husband and I turn off all the lights, sit
in our sunroom with the windows ajar, and with wine in hand just wait...
been doing this for over 15 years

Firstly I'd like to make clear I think Stephen is a nutter. And he can't spell terroir. That being said, you only know how much you miss a place when you've been gone a long time. What Stephen wrote zapped me right back home in an instant. I could literally smell what he was writing about. The rain never smells like that here. So he gets to be poet laureate for at least one day.

Thanks Stephen.

Hehe... thanks?

I often get a visual of myself falling out of the crazy tree. Then the tree breaks at the base and falls on me. The story of my life)

Thanks for all your affirmations. Sometimes it works. Just don't hate me too much when it doesn't- know I love you and I'm trying really hard. Sometimes too hard, lol!
