We've been driving by this place for a decade, and a positive review that showed up here a while ago finally encouraged us to give it a try just today:

Here's a key part of the review:
"The Fish House, a cozy, rather spartan little dining room and glassed-in porch near Winter and Barret Avenues where the Highlands meet Germantown, makes one of the best fried-fish sandwiches around, fried Kentucky Green River style in a crispy, spicy cornmeal batter that’s loaded with black pepper. They sell it as scrod, and I eat it as good."

I agree!
For just 4.95 I got three generous pieces of perfectly breaded fish with a bit of pepper and salt on seeded rye, which when topped with some of the mild jalapeno tatar was quite tasty and filling. There was so much good fish it didn't really all fit on the bread, but it was easy to eat that last piece separately. Somehow it didn't seem greasy, but was done just right and was flaky white on the inside.
We also had apple beignets, which were yummy.
The owner David is a nice guy who keeps the place humming with good cheer.
We recommend The Fish House for a fast and economical meal that's freshly made and delicious. Thumbs up for food and service. If you live in the area and haven't tried this place, give it a try. It's easy on the wallet...
