Mystery restaurant... any info?

by Erin Riedel » Fri May 28, 2010 3:42 pm

Hello all! It's been a long time since my last post here, but I wanted to jump back in both because I've missed the place and because I have a question for you all. I was in San Francisco last week and dined at the delightful Foreign Cinema, where my husband and I got to chatting with the sommelier. We told him that we were from Louisville, and he mentioned that a friend of his was leaving the Bay Area to open a restaurant here. He couldn't remember what the place was to be called or when it would open, but here's what he knew:

His friend's name is Chad.
It's in an up-and-coming neighborhood. (Butchertown? East Market?)
It will be in a historic building that was partially renovated by someone else who ran out of money.
It will serve comfort food.

I'm sure the answer will be revealed in good time, but I wondered if any of the rest of you had any more info about it!

The only thing I can think of off the bat is the old Hausman Jeep building on East Market. I know some work has been done there and a restaurant is planned.
Come to think of it there may have been a thread here and a business first article not long ago.

Here's the thread.

Unfortunately, the CJ article referenced with a link no longer exists. Durn Gannett can't operate a Website right, either. ;)

Erin, welcome back! I see your tracks on Facebook now and then, but we've missed you over here, and I hope you're back to stay.

By the way, am I just being forgetful, or does husband suggest that you and Neal have upgraded your relationship? If so, best wishes! Or if not, heck, best wishes anyway.

Yeah, frappin cheapskates have moved it into a pay-only area. :P If anybody wants to buy it, here's the link, but don't look at me. ;)

Thanks for the welcome and the wishes, Robin! Neil and I did indeed tie the knot. In fact, we were in San Francisco on our honeymoon. :) (This post is actually only the fourth or fifth time I've referred to him as my husband, and it still seems really strange!) I do plan to stick around over here, now that the wedding is over with and I'm not confronted by an ever-expanding to-do list. I've missed it here!

Crush on Market sounds really exciting, but doesn't exactly sound like what was described to us. Hmmmm...

I did even though they had a pay-only area! I guess they have to figure out some way to make money since they obviously can't do well selling newspapers.

Spring street meeting house? Not exactly an up and coming neighborhood though. Although Wellinger's beer depot is a class act.

I think Ivar from Field Day Farm is behind that eatery, isn't he? Not all that turrible a nabe, is it? Sort of a connector between Clifton and Butchertown.

Well, it's my neighborhood, so of course it's classy. :D
I'm beyond excited to see that building being renovated. Now they're putting an addition on the left side of the building as well. Not that bad a nabe though? Let's just say that it's being slowly gentrified. Very very on the slowly. Could use a new sheriff in town kind of slowly. So walking around, I'm truly gratified to see a beautiful pheonix rising from some rubble.

Hey- I just happened to stumble on this info. when I was checking out the kitchen section of the forum. It looks like the place on Spring will be called "Gary's on Spring". http://forums.louisvillehotbytes.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=10201
