Last Minute Help - - Catering Options

by Elizabeth S » Tue May 25, 2010 9:02 am

Hi fellow forumites,
I have gotten into a bit of a jam and need some suggestions. To make a long story short, I volunteered to bring a full pan of lasagna to a lunch today. However, I got the weeks confused and thought it was next week. Well, I need to show up today with lasagna and have no time to make it. I called Lotsa Pasta to see if they could do it, and they said no. Does anyone know of anyplace (preferably Highlands/ St. Matthews area) that could do this? I would want to pick it up around noon. Thanks!

Maybe Le Gallo Rosso on Bardstown Road or DiFabio's Casapela on Frankfort? (I don't think DeFabio's is open until evening, but it's worth a call.)

Doll's, Whole Foods or Fresh Market
Frozen from Lotsa Pasta, if you have time to cook it
Cafe Lou Lou

I think I'd go with Le Gallo Rosso. Their lasagna is good, and a normal portion is HUGE, so you could probably just order 5 or 6. Of course, I have no idea if they're up and running, or if they serve lunch.

It sounds weird, but Vincenzo's might be another option. They are definitely open for lunch.

Yeah, but do they do lasagna? Vincenzo's is really not a red-sauce, Southern Italian/Italian-American family kind of place.

I would try Ermin's on the corner of 1st and Oak in Old Louisville. They have huge pans of it every day to serve for lunch.

I love Paul's, but "Paul's" and "lasagna" frankly don't really go together in my mind. Speaking as a paisan', Annemarie, what do you think of it?

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I got really nervous about the time and ended up going to the Fresh Market on Brownsboro Road. Although I wasn't able to get a full plan, I was able to get several "mini-pans" out of desperation. Thanks again!

Absolutely, they do, and it's good.

Well, I'll be darned! Lasagna Bolognese is a regional variant of the hearty Calabrian stuff that's the direct progenitor of Italian-American lasagna, but it's close enough to be recognizable. I don't recall that on Vincenzo's menu in years past, although I haven't been for a while. Vincenzo knows me and isn't really able to give me "regular-customer" treatment, so I send in surrogates to do my periodic reviews.
