Thai Taste

by John Lisherness » Sat Jul 07, 2007 3:56 pm

I had an excellent meal at Thai Taste on lower Brownsboro Rd earlier this week. This place is a gem.
I especially enjoyed the "Kha nom jeep" -a set of streamed pastry dumplings, filled with water chestnut, shrimp, minced pork, served with pot sticker sauce. Wonderful flavors and textures.
The owners who work there are very nice.
I asked the server if they had an online menu- he said they didn't but wished they did. I offered to post it if he could send me an electronic copy.
He took me up on my offer and I posted it today:

(there's also a link on http://www.MenusOfLouisville.com)
The server tried to comp me on the tab for offering to post the menu- I insisted on paying... it was still quite a bargain.

1977 Brownsboro Road, about three blocks west (toward downtown) from Dirty Kroger's.

What an apt name- now I know what to call that hell hole of a grocery that is closest to me. I've been calling it the bodega on Brownsboro but that is giving bodegas a bad name.

Oddly enough it has been called "Dirty Kroger" for well over 20 years. I was dispatched on a med run there in '86 and, coming from the Anchorage fire station, we didn't know that area well. When we asked dispatch for a general area they said "Everyone knows it as dirty Kroger, cross street Jane". :)

Kroger monikers

by John Lisherness » Sat Jul 07, 2007 11:38 pm

LOL
Talk about getting off-subject...
Let's not forget soccer-mom Kroger (Holiday Manor) and who knows the politically incorrect nick-name for the Krogers on 2nd Street?

Holiday Manor was originally known as "Kro-zhay," although this moniker seems to have shifted to the big St. Matthews store on Hubbards near Westport. I think the local custom of naming them got somewhat diluted when they added so many more suburban stores that people ran out of good new ideas.

One of my most memorable reporting experiences came when I was interviewing Dave Armstrong (then the mayor), and he blurted out "Dirty Kroger" in an unguarded moment. I thought his PR flack was going to have a stroke.

Robin,

Tsk, tsk...how terribly "not- PC "of you.... Loved the story about Armstrong: would have loved to have seen his PR person's face!

Thanks for the directions,
Deb

LowBro is known as Kroghetto and Holiday Manor as Krogucci. At least that's how I've always heard it.

If Holiday Manor Kroger is "Krogucci", what is the Prospect Kroger called?

No way. We here in OldLou are the "proud" neighborhood of the Kroghetto. Lower Brownsboro is and always will be the Dirty Kroger.

Bringing this post back up because we had a great dinner there last night.
I'm not Thai savvy enough to begin to remember the names of the dishes we had, but they wer really good! First, we had a fish cake appetiser with a truly delectable sauce. Then I had an entree off the "specials" menu with octopus, scallops, shrimp and fake crab (I know, I know, but I really kinda like the stuff - sorry!) with some veggies in a brownish sauce - heat level 3 and white noodles instead of rice on the side. Yum! Perfectly hot with out being overpowering, very tasty. We also had one of the curry dishes with the addition of shrimp, also really good. The employees are so nice, one girl had only been in the US for two days and her smile (with dimples) made up for absolutely no English what so ever! Great little spot!
