Went to Papalinos tonight for dinner, it was crowded and hot as hell, slice was good but greasier than I normally like. Crust was thicker than I remember a New York pie to be but it was made well. Felt sorry for the people working in there because of the heat.

That was my sentiment precisely...Wicks is never on our radar.

In fairness, Wick's is quality pizza, but it's made for the teen-age palate. :?

Michael Wickliffe, owner of Wick's Pizza:
"When I first opened up, there was nothing on this street," he said in his rapid-fire delivery. The lenses of his Prada glasses slowly changed tint in the morning sunlight.

"I'm like the Jeff Ruby's," he said, in relation to Spinelli's or Papalino's, which he called "Outback (steak house)."

I think Mr. Wickliffe needs to have his Prada glasses adjusted. His perspective on pizza is blurry at best.
"The idea is to eat well and not die from it-for the simple reason that that would be the end of your eating." - Jim Harrison

If we're going to make chain comparisons Wick's is the Panda Express to Impelizzeri's PF Chang's.

Darn, sorry I missed this article...A little pizza "smack talk" would be a cool read. Hopefully they will archive it online. The part Justin quoted about the guy from Wicks calling his place the "Jeff Ruby's" of pizza was pretty comical.

Maybe he meant to say "Jack Ruby's"?
