Bloomington suggestions?

by Heather L » Thu Jul 05, 2007 9:39 am

We are going to Bloomington on Saturday. I was hoping to get some suggestions for dinner on Saturday and possibly breakfast/brunch on Sunday....

Thanks in advance!

Gratzie's is good for Italian fare and is centrally located in the "downtown" area. Also, nearby Malibu Grill is excellent for a more upscale evening. If you are looking for a casual yet very enjoyable pizza experience you must try Lennie's / Bloomington Brewing Company. Hope these help -enjoy B-Town!

It's been a while since younger son graduated from IU but, during those years, I had two favorites. (1) The Snow Lion, 113 S Grant St, is a Tibetan restaurant. I loved it because, short of New York City, I have never found any other Tibetan restaurants and variety is the spcie of life! The food reminded me of a mix somewhere between Chinese and Indian but with its own special twist. I fondly remember a stuffed dumpling. The other restaurant at which we repeatedly ate is the Irish Lion http://www.irishlion.com/ a combination pub/steak house in a neat historic building. I remember that they had the best Irish bangers at the Sunday brunch.

For ANY meal .. I would recommend Uptown Cafe. This was our favorite restaurant for dinner and breakfast.

I would also second Lennie's.

For breakfast, The Village Deli is a classic and it is great. They work well for lunch also. The Bakehouse is nice too ... last time I was there, they had expanded A LOT since we lived there (I lived in blmgtn from 92 - 98).

Another great place for dinner is Little Zagreb ... great for steaks but our favorite was always the lamb chops!

Malibu Grill is another favorite .. wood oven pizzas and a wonderful spinach and artichoke dip.

Lennie's is located at 1795 E 10th St

The Upland Brewing Company is another fine stop for more casual fare. Very good beers and food available. They also have a great Bison chile.

Also, if you like pizza and even though it's a chain, Noble Roman's is pretty good. I particularly recommend the Sicilian style pizza with a very crispy, chewy crust and sauce on the top. The stuff they are selling around here at a few Subway outlets isn't even close to what they serve at a freestanding location.
