Alan H. goes beyond the call of duty

by Gayle DeM » Fri May 14, 2010 12:14 am

So this week my home has grown to include two granddaughters and one grandcat. We, the people, have had a great time. I don't believe the same can be said for the three cats.

Today the girls enjoyed the playground at Long Run Park, before feeding the donkeys, zebra, camels, geese, rabbits and guinea pigs at Henry's Ark. Next we went to the Captain's Quarters for lunch under a tent on the bank of the mighty Ohio. And yes, the girls did get to see a big old barge, loaded with coal, being pushed down the river. Then the pièce de résistance: forumite Alan H., who is the manager of CQ, took the girls and me on a tour of their boat, the CQ Princess; both girls got to sit in the captian's chair! :D It doesn't get much better than that!

Did I say the girls loved their grilled cheese sandwiches accompanied by carrots, cucumbers and ranch dressing? (Mean ole DeDe, alias Gayle DeM, made the girls eat three carrots and three cucumber slices without any dressing before eating on their own.) I was overwhelmed with the Kentucky Hot Brown, half of which is sitting in my fridge. Gwen was the waitress with the "mostest."

Did I say that Alan was preparing to host over 2000 people this evening for the U of L Sports Caravan and he still had time to play host to me and my grand kiddos? Unbelievable! :D :D :D I hope the weather held out for him there this evening like it did for me at my home.

Gayle,
Thank you for your kind words !
Seeing the smiles on your granddaughters faces is what it is all about :D

It was our 4th year in holding the caravan and we had another great turnout !

Alan is one of the best people -- I'm not surprised in the slightest that he went out of his way for anyone. Captain Quarters is lucky to have him. :D
