Chicago Restaurant Suggestions

by David Lange » Mon May 10, 2010 8:37 am

Heading to Chicago later this month for the National Restaurant Association convention. Are there any new Chi-Town eateries that should not be missed. I am looking for places for a Friday and Saturday night.

Thanks ahead

Gibson's for steak, if you can't get in, you can still go to Hugo's Frog Bar, same kitchen/menu.
Bin 36 for a great wine experience.
Coco Pazzo Cafe for great, inexpensive Italian.

Not new by anymeans, but a must when I go to Chicago!

Gino's Pizza....multiple locations in the city. INCREDABLE deep (and I do mean DEEP) dish pizza!
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

I've never been, but I've seen The Wieners Circle on TV a few times and it looks very interesting. I'm sure it's not everyone's "cup of tea", but it would sure make for a memorable experience.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wieners_Circle

The Wieners Circle is a hot dog stand in Chicago, Illinois. It is famous for four things: its signature Chicago-style hot dogs, hamburgers and cheese fries, and the mutual verbal abuse between the employees and the customers during the late-weekend hours.

As the wait-staff is largely African-American and the clientele middle-class to wealthy white, the more racist epithets have led to the rare physical altercation. Customers commonly request a "chocolate milkshake," or for one of the female employees to lift her shirt and shake her breasts.

I will miss you as I'm going up Sunday through Tuesday. :(

Last year we ate at David Burke's Primehouse and I thought it was great.

I really want to try the Publican this year if we can even get into the place.

You might want to get ahold of Dan Dry. He always stays in the know with the new "hip" places up there. 8)

The Chop House or Gibson's for steak. Pizano's for pizza...I lived a couple of blocks away years ago and still miss it daily.

The wife and I loved Billy Goat Tavern. It is pretty old school and a little hard to find. We walked around (above it) for about 10 minutes before we figured out it is below street level.
