I could wait no more, the lure of the Pho...and as Pam said this isn't a cookie cutter Chinese restaurant. I stopped in today for lunch to go, and ended up with enough food to eat for a week! Really generous portions, reasonable prices too. The owner is Eric Tran, he and his wife are from the west coast and wanted to offer a melange of Thai, Vietnamese, Phillipine and Chinese food. You assemble your entrees from a choice of meat/starch/sauce. I got Bourbon Beef Lo Mein, Teriyaki Chicken Lo Mein and Beef Pho. Next time I'll get the Peanut and Sweet Basil Chili.
The Pho first...very tasty, slightly different from others I've tried (Eric said no MSG) but very good, I could really taste the star anise, the broth was bright and fresh tasting. Wide flat noodles, crispy bean sprouts to add with the other usual condiments, it is easily a portion for 2, for $6.99.
The Beef Bourbon Lo Mein was full of beef and crispy veggies. I didn't discern a distinct bourbon flavor in the sauce, but it was sweet and good. I shot a little sriracha sauce on it and it went from good to really good.
The Chicken Teriyaki Lo Mein had wonderful grill marked pineapple slices on top and was my favorite so far. Again, a little sriracha and I was happy happy. Nice crunchy veggies. Toothsome noodles. Good stuff.
I couldn't resist a Bubble Drink, a smoothie sort of concoction, I got the passion fruit and it was soooo good. It is a mystery to me how I can suck mushy tapioca balls into the back of my mouth without wretching but I love those little chewy goobers.
The restaurant itself is neat and contemporary, soft cushy chairs to wait in while your order is being prepared. Eric was very helpful in explaining the menu. I am eager to try the Spring Rolls, the Chicken Satay and the Sushi. No menu online, I'm going to try and scan it tomorrow. His take away menu offers 50% off Bubble drinks on Thursday from 2 - 4 and kids 12 and under eat free on Mondays. Also he offers 50% off on sushi during his last hour open each day...Its easy to whiz by as you try and make the light at Hurstbourne and Westport, but it's worth a stop.
