Middle Eastern Bakeries???

by Adam C » Tue May 04, 2010 11:12 am

I stopped by Baban's Bakery on Lower Brownsboro Rd. this morning and no one was there. I thought, "No!!!" I am looking for some of that Nan bread. They make two different types one is a large lavosh and the other is a nan bread about the size of a pita. I need the one about the size of a pita. Does anyone else know if there is another Middle Eastern style bakery in town making similar fresh bread or maybe even the new location for Baban's? Help!

Cheers!

Al Watan, Klondike Lane just off Hikes Lane. There's a very nice three-table Palestinian restaurant in the same quarters. Among the most authentic Southwest Asian food around town, and the bakery is excellent.

I second Al Watan. I don't know if they have naan, but their pita is the best in the city.

Also, FYI - there is additional seating in the rear of the restaurant.

Naan is actually Indian, so it kind of surprises me that a Southwest Asian place would have it, although the line between pita and lavash and naan and other flatbreads can be kind of hard to draw. :?

Thank you! Yeah, I didn't think Nan was Middle Eastern but the stuff at Baban's was so similar... Actually I think they called it lavosh... hmmm.. Either way I love it. Thanks again!

I buy my lavash at Creation Gardens, and it's made by Baban. To my knowledge, they're still selling it there.

I've been dying to try Al Watan. It's literally right down the street from my house, and I've never been in.

Just keep in mind they are closed Mondays and close at 9pm the rest of the week. But you seriously can't go wrong with anything from the bakery or the restaurant.
