60 West

by Jason G » Sun Apr 18, 2010 3:41 pm

A couple of weeks ago we went to 60 West in St. Matthews on the recommendation of a friend. I know its been there for a while but we had never thought to try it. After going back this weekend I would have to say this has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants.

For appetizers we tried the seared scallops and the calamari. The scallops were melt-in-your-mouth tender and served in a tasty creme sauce. A little small maybe, but probably the best I've ever had as far as the texture. The calamari is fried and served with a thai chili sauce, not an atypical dish, but the calamari was very tender, new chewy, and they breading was light and crispy, not greasy, and had a nice spicy kick to it.

Both times i had the ground ribeye burger. It was so good the first time I had to give it another shot. I can probably say it is one of the best burgers i've ever had. The meat came out tender and very juicy with enough flavor to stand on its own, but it also comes with a chili mayo that is a great complement but doesn't overpower the burger flavor. Fries were crispy and well seasoned.

Other good dishes we had were the fried oysters, honey salmon, and fresh tomato basil soup. They were all excellent. Martinis are half price on saturday night, we got away with appetizer, soup and entrees, 2 beers and 2 martinis for $55 bucks before tip. Not bad at all! The atmosphere is nice there too, its classy and open, and there are big tvs available for viewing if a big game is on.

I wish i had discovered this place sooner. I highly recommend giving it a try if you live in the st. matthews area.

Nice review Jason. 60 West has been a little under our radar...from your descriptions we're going to have to put it on the "go to soon" list.

60 West has fast become one of my favorite places to have a nice meal. Alan and I have taken to doing a "Lounge Bite" evening every so often (I love my Artichoke Fritters and usually get one of the other delights on the menu such as the scollops) and Alan adores the chicken wings with a salad....and of course something fun off the Martini menu. Wonderful place to escape after a bear of a day in town!

I just want to add to the praise. 60 West is one of the least appreciated restaurants in the city. Elliot is the man.
