Bank Street Brewhouse today: Beers at 11, no food until 5:30

by Roger A. Baylor » Fri Apr 16, 2010 10:39 am

I just received word from Chef Josh that the small walk-in at Bank Street Brewhouse shut down overnight, with all contents lost. We'll be replacing the foodstuffs stored therein, and repairing the malfunction, and so although we'll be open at 11:00 a.m. to serve beer, there will be no meals at BSB today until 5:30 p.m. dinner service. Hopefully we'll be unaffected after that.

As during other unexpected outage occurrences previously, it's a great opportunity to explore the other restaurants in downtown New Albany. Good tidings for the future: I spoke with Israel Landin last night, and it appears that the Rosita's move to Pearl Street is back on track. That's great news.

To repeat: We should be good for tonight, albeit with some items unavailable. The beer's pouring. Thanks for your support and understanding.

That sucks Roger I know how you must be feeling. I stopped by last Monday lunchtime (my only day off) on the off chance. I had a feeling you might be closed but I spoke to your two guys who told me that there was filming going on that day and that is why they were there. Hopefully, when school is out and I have more help I will be able to come on a day that you are open. WIll you be having your stand at the Church thingy in New Albany on June 5th and 6th? We will be selling gyros there again this year.

Who needs food when you have beer? Many restaurants have insurance to cover loss of food due to equipment failure, not to say it's not a hassle...

In my experience, the insurance only covers the purchase cost of the food, not the profit lost on the sale of the food. (Unless the business interruption is an extended one). So it's good to have but certainly doesn't make up for the loss...

Roger,

Sorry to hear about the trouble; amazingly customer-focused of you to announce it to people. Congrats on the great article in Food & Dining! ( wow, I know what you really look like now  )

Yeah, insurance check underway. Glad it didn't happen next week (fingers crossed).

Alison: Yep, we'll be at Art on the Parish Green, so maybe I'll see you there. I just realized recently that your husband went to Lanesville about the same time one of my friends, Jeannine. I went to Floyd Central, but had a bunch of friends in Lanesville at the time, and I was looking at all the photos he's been posting on FB. Brought back some great memories even if I didn't know him at the time.

Would that be attractive Jeanine with 4 kids?? If so, I know her too from the reunions.

Cheers Roger, for the PSA.

Finally had lunch today at my third stop. The other two places were closed with signs on the door. Wish more owners would make use of the forum the way you do.

Roger, who did you get in to fix your cooler. Mine started going wrong yesterday afternoon, it is holding at 50 degrees not 38.

I will check. In the past we've used Crum Heating and Cooling in Sellersburg. I believe it's who we called this time.

Allison, it was Crum that did the repair and are a very responsive company. The problem was a burnt out defrost switch (one year old?). My experience with this type of switch is they quit working in the off cycle causing the condenser to ice-up but not heat-up. Of course ours stuck in the defrost cycle.
