Dinner at Palermo Viejo

by Tara OB » Thu Apr 15, 2010 4:52 pm

Five of my college girl friends and I had dinner at Palermo Viejo last night. Before I go into details, I have to explain a little history about how we selected the restaurant…

A few years ago, when we first decided to meet monthly for dinner, it was a struggle to pick out a restaurant. So we decided that each girl would get to pick a restaurant in her birthday month, which oddly enough, fall in chronological months, April-September. Then we’d just repeat: 6 girls, 12 months. To make things all the more interesting, I suggested that we “eat” our way through the alphabet. We began this adventure with the now defunct Artemesia, for the letter A. B was Browning’s. C was the Cardinal Hall of Fame Café. You get the point. My only rule was that we had to avoid corporate restaurants if at all possible. And I am very proud to say, two-thirds of the way through our second run through the alphabet, we have supported all local restaurants with the exception of two or three.

Now, back to Palermo Viejo, Miss April’s choice for P. It was an excellent pick on her part. I had made reservations via Open Table, with a note that we might need a high chair. I called the day before to confirm that the high chair would be needed and they were more than accommodating with my request.

I had the, and forgive my spelling (you’ll know why I am not sure on that in a second), Millaneses de carne with a side of the whipped potatoes. (Trust the Irish girl to find her steak and potatoes in any restaurant.) The food was wonderful! The steak was covered with ham, cheese and tomatoes. The potatoes were unique in that they had nutmeg in them. Still good, but something I did not expect. The white sangria went down way too easy… hence my spelling problem.

Service was great. The place was busy. Now that I know about it, I plan on making a return visit.

Next month is Q, my choice: Queen of Sheba. I’ve been there before and loved it. I know what to expect but the rest of my girls don’t. But, courtesy of me pushing them outside of their comfort zone, they are ready for the experience.

I L-O-V-E Palermo!! Their steak churrascos & vegetable ravioli ( i can't remember the spelling or the name of that) are some of my favorite dishes in Louisville. Everything on their menu is delicious & they are pretty reasonably priced. :D

What's OB? What happened to the name policy. And how is just a first name and initial (as some others have and is allowed) not anonymous?

Mine is a first name and initial...as are many of the avatars on here. No news there.
Tara mentioned that she's of Irish heritage.....The "OB" would be O'____________. As in
O' Brian....or O'Bannon.

Nice welcome.

Brian, Tara told you right. No one gets in here without my approval. She's an Irish O'B, but the stupid system won't accept apostrophes. How about this? If I want help enforcing the real names rule, I'll post a sticky message asking for it. ;)

And I agree with her: Nice welcome. And, if you don't mind my being blunt, particularly odd from a guy who's apparently trying to promote his business from his sig line. Want to reboot and offer Tara a warmer welcome, before she puts your business on her no-go list? Personally, I'm glad she's here and have enjoyed her posts.

First, Tara did not respond. Secondly, I know in the past some have made it into the forums anonymously and you've acknowledge it was a mistake. My post wasn't rude whatsoever or even directed toward Tara and it was mostly generated in response to a post I saw from Tara which I interpreted as somewhat inappropriate - therefore reinforcing my thinking that she may have got approved anonymously by mistake (she wasn't but doesn't one have the right to ask if a mistake was made without being berated?).

Last, my sig line is not there to promote business, it's there to offer my services and 20yrs of residential real estate expertise to friends that may have have a question or wish to use my services. It's something I do for friends if called upon and not something I depend on to make a living.

I post what I feel (opinions) whether about food or politics without regard to whether someone will do business with me because of a stated opinion or stance. If that were the case I wouldn't be able to express my opinions genuinely.

Further, I'd hope after 649 posts it might be fairly obvious I'm not here to kiss *** to get business...

I'm really flattered with all of this attention about my last name!!

Leann C hit my last name on the head... it is O'Bannon. There you go: Tara O'Bannon. Guilty as charged.

Due to technical issues, as Robin stated, I was not allowed to use the apostrophe. I've dealt with this problem my whole life. I'm rather proud of my name so rather than have my last name spelled incorrectly for the millionth time, I chose to just use my last two initials. Something that was okayed long before I posted my first post.

I don't have to give up my age, weight or height to keep posting do I?

Brian, no harm, no foul. I didn't respond immediately as I was out enjoying the weather.

Robin, when we hit "X" last time, it was a free for all. We just tossed out ideas and highest vote getter won out. I am definitely up for suggestions, even if that is a ways away.

This is true.

I'm going to repeat, though, Brian, in case my point got lost in a sea of verbiage: I considered your question marginally rude to a newcomer. I do not want us to be rude to newcomers. If you think somebody may be a spammer or scammer, it would be more appropriate to contact me about it than to challenge them in public.

I understand, I didn't even think of a PM, forgot that option was even there. Tara, welcome and it wasn't my intent to be rude.

One of my favorite things about Palermo is the Chimichurri Sauce. It's a secret recipe; everyone has their own variation on it. But dang it...if there's isn't done #1.
