I believe Dan has brought it full circle with a great point. One must distinguish when the Server or Customer is having a bad day. THEN, if it's the fault of the Server, identify real reasons. Were they related to food or service? Often time, I see people penalize decent Servers based upon poor food set out from the kitchen.

Dan,

Sorry if my previous point came across as abrasive...I have a daughter, a salaried retail manager (with a college degree), who works 60-70 hours a week and does in fact "net" something very close to minimum wage when it's all said and done. As a result when I hear someone (anyone) making a statement about (in this case) the economic plight of a server and that statement tells only half the story I get a little sensitive. My apologies.

(I have GOT to stop posting after I've gotten all riled up from reading the mornings financial news) :?

No problem Steve, I was just looking at the issue from another angle. I'm not saying that there aren't any bad servers out there. There are more than a few "paycheck collectors" out there in any line of work. I just took the whole tone of the thread as sort of negative towards servers in general and felt that I needed to present a different side to the story.

Dan,

Cool. I didn't want the two of us on bad terms or anything. God knows I've got enough "issues" just being a Browns fan this season  Hey, Good luck in the Chili cookoff...We had to forego competing due to a "scheduling conflict" but will try to stop down and say "hi"...I'll be the guy with the Browns hat on and my tail between my legs

annemarie m wrote:mark you said it best. mathew, i eat out 5 days a week every week. service over the years have been spiraling downward. servers don't give a shit, (excuse my language) anymore. half of them don't even want to be at work. even at some of the top places, service had been lukewarm and not top notch like before. society in general doesn't care. what gets me the most is, servers depend on tips. you would think they would give you good service in return for a good tip, not so these days, they expect it, whether they give you good service or not. one should get good service at a 4 star or at chain. service is service no matter what you are eating in a dining establishment.

This is patently offensive, and is perfectly indicative of the shift in attitude on this board. This kind of remark is exactly what I was referencing in the Maido thread. Where there used to be a constructive back and forth and attempt to understand both sides of the customer/server relationship, this forum has become a consumer's only forum which is fine, but not a place for trying to understand each other better. So, I bid you farewell. As a server I think it is pretty impossible to have discussions on here anymore without risking a negative effect on my current career. And again, please don't assume a negative or inflammatory tone in this response. I just wanted to voice my opinion on this kind of comment. The only other response I could see in regards to the above post would be, if going out has become so terrible why do you bother to do it five nights a week? Again, not trying to be nasty, but I sincerely wonder why you would bother to continue to support something you feel has gone so badly downhill.

Kyle,

EXACTLY. :P

However in defense of my team they did manage to unload that malcontented-wart-on-ass-of-society Braylon Edwards today. Personally I think they ripped the Jets off as most Browns fans would have traded the guy to anyone for a can of warm Pabst Blue Ribbon and a rain soaked pack of Camels. Addition by subtraction perhaps.

Sorrry...just realized that was my "outside" voice talking again.

No explanation needed,Steve. I use to date a gal from Cleavland. She made sports fans look timid. I could not mention Art Modell for months. Even then, she glared at me.

Sorry to say I wont be there this year either.... :( :( :(
My wife had a death in the family and we will be in Cincy. If we get back in time I will try to stop by. Good Luck Marsha!!!! If you haven't gotten ahold of a turkey fryer yet, I would gladly drop off mine at Sullivan for you.

Dan, stand by - I may need to take you up on that. I had one lined up, but the folks I was borrowing from are leaving town tomorrow at noon, and I may miss the connection. I'll message you if I need it.

Actually I have two (twenty-something) daughters...and if the lack of tattoos are any indication they are both doing quite well in life. Sadly one of 'em is dating a Wall Street attorney ( I know, I should have raised her better)....but hey, on the positive side I'm anticipating an significant "uptick" in the rate of return on my 401K about the time he proposes.

poor annemarie. i don't know what to say. honestly this made me giggle a little bit. it is bewildering and at this point, all i could do was laugh. i wish somebody would get your coke right annemarie, i really do. now, everytime someone orders without ice, i will think of you and hope that you are somewhere having a lovely meal and enjoying a tall, cold glass of coke with no ice!

P:S i do speak english clearly... lol

yeah that should get the meal off in the right direction, insult the server from the start :|
