And I have morals, but they are mine. They don't apply to anyone else.

Call me a moral libertarian, I guess.

I'm am guessing that you don't really mean you are comfortable with calling "morality" a husband cheating on his family. You probably don't really think that's moral, do you? Libertarian? I may be generally an "R," and don't have many strong Libertarian values, but I don't really think most Libertarians would think his actions are OK. Correct me if I am wrong.

I'm saying that marriage is different between different people and it can have many different definitions. I imagine that Mrs. Pitino knew of her husband's peccadilloes and tolerated them. I also imagine that she is much more upset by the public humiliation than by him coming home late.

And yes, I am saying that I don't consider infidelity an issue of morality, in fact, I don't think that any sexual act is immoral as long as it involves consensual adults. I know that some people do, that's why I say that everyone is entitled to define morality their own way.

But most of all, I am saying that this issue has no bearing what so ever on my opinion of Porcinis.

Stands next to Michelle.
Meh, what Rick does or doesn't do makes no difference to me.
What I do or don't do makes a lot of difference to me.

As far as I can tell, I don't get to set up the rules or judge everybody else. Unless somebody left me in charge without telling me . . .

I'm don't think it's okay to cheat, but I also think we're going to find out that this was tolerated by his wife. Pitino's wife probably already knew about this because he was bound to know this was going to come out. With that being said, if I didn't patronize anywhere that I didn't agree with their morals or whatever (yes, I know there were two negatives there), I'd be sitting at home a lot. I don't agree with most of the general public (it seems), but I gotta eat, wear clothing, and put gas in my car. Mental note--make birthday dinner reservation at Porcini and request a patio table instead of a booth.

To bring up 9/11 in his apology is the most classless, condescending thing that the "King of Superlatives" could possibly do..........to his fans and his critics alike :? :?

"There's no doubt that the attack on the World Trade Center was difficult for Pitino. His brother-in-law, who worked for Cantor Fitzgerald, was among the people killed that day and that's certainly not an easy thing for anyone to deal with. It's also not something that has anything to do with what happened in a Louisville restaurant in 2003 nor with the events that led to his press conference on Wednesday.

It's beyond offensive to use the memories of Billy Minardi, Pitino's brother-in-law, and the 3,000 other people who died that day as a crutch to try and make yourself look more sympathetic in the face of accusations involving infidelity and abortion."

I have an academic article on the (linguistic) act of apology hanging out on my work backburner. Listening to Pitino's press conference provided me the motivation to get back to it. I can't say, based on my rules of apology, that it was the most effective or well-thought out apology of all time. Seemed like he was making excuses more than he was apologizing. And, I agree that he chose the wrong context for his excuse(s). While sorry is the magic word, piling on a bunch of excuses only weakens its magic. Invoking 9.11, I would guess, only comes across as being offensive and uncalled for.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.
