HOWZIT?

Let me throw this out there....3AM and it's Zippy's time. Ono Hawaiian Foods on Kapahulu Ave. Also on da same street...Rainbow Drive Inn. Best Spam, Eggs, 2 Scoop rice and Kal-Bi. Ok, even betta Bruddah...North Shore and the Lunch Wagons...

So What, Where in Islands you from???

Hea: Aiea, Class of 77'

P.S. You can get da kine...Zippy's Chili online, shipped.

Yep...That's me...Born Honolulu...Raised In The Ville...Returned To The Islands (Maui High Class of 78...And now I find myself returning to The Ville...Funny how that works out...I guess that would make me a Polynesian "Redneck"...LOL...BTW...I was stationed at Hickam Air Force Base from 1993-1997 and got to check out Oahu for about four good years...I even got to see the Louisville Cardinals team (Dwayne Morton...C. Rozier...D. Wheat...G. Minor... play the University of Hawaii in the Finals of the Rainbow Basketball Classic...Talk about mixed emotions...Believe it or not...but that was the first time I have ever seen a U of L basketball game in person...U of L prevailed by a few points dispite a heroic effort by Hawaii's Trevor Ruffin...He lit up U of L for 43 points...11 for 13 from 3 point land...I was secretly rooting for U of L but I was thrilled to see Hawaii put up such a game effort...GO BOWS!

Yeah...I miss the ono grinds of the islands...Rainbow Drive Inn...Malasadas...Lunch Wagons...Boston's North End Pizza Slices (Garlic & Spinach)...Broke Da Mouth...But to be honest...What I miss the most about the island grinds is the Ba-Le Vietnamese sandwiches...Once I got hooked on those...It was over...I have traveled back to Maui the past two years for a couple of 17 day stints...and u best believe that I got my fair share of Ba-Le sandwiches...Not to mention a whole lotta Kal-Bi...Mahi-mahi...Portagee sausage, rice, and eggs...Mango bread...Hmm...I just might have to bump up my next trip to the islands...

This is too cool Brah. Left Hawai'i in 77 after graduating. Attended Morehead State for 1 year since most colleges back then really did'nt view Hawaii as a state and even worse for education. Transfered to U of Kentucky for the remainder of college. Afer I went to Phoenix and worked for Bobby McGee's Corporate office who inturn transfered me back out to Hawaii to run the location there. That was 81' I left Oahu in 94' coming to KY.

Bobby McGee's, Outrigger Canoe Club, Red Lion, Shore Bird & John Dominis.

Have my 30th High School reunion coming up in Lost Wages in Oct. That's going to be a riot.

Whooops, I forgot...Lau Lau.

What about a Brazilian churrascaria, all you can eat meat. Hopefully next year we'll have one here in Louisville.

I would like to see "The Stewed Hen" Jackson, Ms. open in Louisville.
Also "The Boiled Owl" would add a flair as well.
Every days a holiday and every meals a feast !

Sansei! From Hawaii. I think it is on all of the major islands. It is AMAZING. My husband and I ate their 2 times on our honeymoon. It is right down from the Ritz Carlton on Maui. We have their cookbook, and those recipies are amazing as well.

While we're talking Hawaii, how about a Duane's Ono-Charburger right here in river city? Sans the "free range" chickens of course.
