there has been no mention criteria for entry, rules of contest etc.

Maybe I would like to participate, but do not have all the info.

Good questions, Heather. I've posted what we know so far in a separate thread so it doesn't get lost- "Intial Guidelines for Shrimp & Grits Throwdown."

I agree ... there's no way there won't be a conflict with SOMETHING, and it might as well be a U of L game.

However this is a huge game for UofL and I would hate to loose out on some folks. Then again CQ has a lounge and I'm sure it will be on the TV there. But Alan at CQ also raised the game issue.

Understood, Will. The problem is, as Marsha raises the point, any other possible weekend might be worse. And the TV lounge does offer a compromise.

Back to the topic of this thread, a fund-raiser seems like it ought to set a price appropriate for raising some funds, but I hate to lock out our low-income members.

Maybe do something like the admission at the Metropolitan Museum in New York: The "suggested price" is $20, but pay what you can afford as long as you pay something ... and of course, larger contributions earmarked for FEAT are welcome?

Awwwwwww, man. It would be better if it conflicted with a UK game. Or Duke, or Mempiss, or anyone but UL. Aren't you a UL grad?

I got word from Dean Corbett and he can judge yeh!..... but not on the 2nd as he has ....you guessed, it UofL tickets. No matter the cause, the game will win out. I strongly suggest that if we are going to all of this trouble to raise funds then lets not shoot ourselves in the foot with a poor date.

Not in the same league as Deano but I'll judge it Willie and I dont think my Cal Bears are playing that day either (a little payola on the side and you have a real chance at a win baby!)

Yeah, with all the sports fanatics around here, when I read "Yukon" I thought to myself, only on a foodie site would UConn be confused with Yukon (as in Gold potatoes.) I think going up against the game is folly. U of L BBall rules!

 Hadn't thought about it that way.....

Well, as I told Will, I'm definitely not a sports fan. But when it was mentioned, I thought Yukon was the team name - like Cardinals. Just thought some team, maybe in colder country, thought it was a cute mascot. Come on- my Alma mater had the Fighting Illini. (What the @# is an Illini?)

From someone across the river (Missouri Tigers), the Illini were an Indian tribe. And I won't hold it against you!

My 2 cents about the game ... it IS a Big East game and UConn is HUGE for UofL. Having the game on in the lounge would help a lot, but there will be a lot of people attending the game. Whether they are the same demographic as the throw-down, who knows? As long as the game is on in the lounge, I'm happy as I do not have tickets. :( The conflict with the game, however, will affect your "celebrity" judges.

As to the issue of the date....back when the trip to Sergios was brought up there was alot of interest. After it ended up being on a day with a game going on only four folks showed up. I know its not the same sort of event, but still.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

John,

That's what I'm concerned about. While ( obviously  ) I'm not a sports fan, I've personally experienced very low turnouts on events which coincide with important Uof L games, and both Will and Alan shared that this is traditionally a very bad restaurant day- no one wants to go out. Feb 2nd is also the day after the Superbowl.

Additional thoughts from anyone?

I sort of have to agree, even though I'm definitely NOT a Cards fan (yes, Cats, and I'm wearing a blue tie right now, so eat it). That being said, I've run into trouble planning dinner parties at my house on nights UL or UK play (my friends are split pretty evenly), even though I have a TV on which to show the game.

Plus, having Chef Corbett there as a judge would be pretty impressive I think, and would defintiely up the advertising pull. . .
