Taco trailers tend to locate near Mexican and other Latino groceries, both for supply and for demographics. Putting this as nicely as I know how to say it, I think some of our more upscale suburban neighborhoods might freak right out if a Latino taco wagon started pulling up and attracting happy Spanish-speaking crowds every night until midnight. I'm not saying this is right. But I'm just sayin' ...

I live in the area and I have to agree. Plus the residental subdivisions all have covenants that are going to forbid a mobile merchant. And you also have to consider the traffic potential; while Norton Commons is very supportive of their merchants, there is no drive-by traffic and a pretty small number of homes.

On the other hand, there is a significant Mexican population ( as evidenced by the Latino Groceries/ bank signs in Spanish) around Hurstbourne and Westport Road , with GREAT drive-by traffic. Juan, what are the rules on where you can locate your trailer? I'm thinking the parking lot of LAC/Westport Kroger might be a great spot.

I was just thinking the same spot, Deb. That shopping center is large, gets a great deal of traffic, and doesn't seem too uppity. There is a Mexican eatery there already, but maybe they will welcome the company.

There's a mexican place in that oversized strip mall? How did I miss that? I know the El Nopal behind the Goosecreek Seviche, but didn't know there was another one....

No, El Nopal is the one I was thinking of - just couldn't remember the name of it. It's all the same strip mall to me. One great big parking lot that separates Goose Creek Road from Hurstbourne. You're placement suggestion sounds great - in front of LAC! It's like tossing someone overboard and throwing them a life preserver.

I live in Norton Commons...In my opinion, the area is "ripe" and affords a near perfect opportunity....The money is there as well as the appetites!!

I would recommend either the petsmart parkinglot, (across from the Home Depot) on westport or the Kroger parking lot across from the summit.
The 'net is a waste of time, and that's exactly what's right about it.

Almost guaranteed that's a diiferent landlord/developer than the LAC/ Westport Road shopping center. Personally, i doubt that a developer would give permission for the truck to be competing with my tenant. As a former tenant, I would personally have had a fit if that was allowed.

Given that it's a big corporation, I'm not sure how/if it would be approved, but the parking lot of the new BBT would be excellent. If I was the Bank Manager, I'd be very interested: they are trying to draw the Spanish speaking customers ( they have Soy Habla Espanol signs all around the building), and this would be excellent exposure for them to that audience.

The LAC/Kroger shopping center and the properties that front onto Goose Creek Rd. are all owned by the same company. It is managed by McMahon and owned by a group of partners that have owned it since it was built for Winn-Dixie and K-mart. (Disclaimer: I'm not one of those partners - just related to several of them). What about the old Rolling Hills shopping center, just west of Goose Creek Rd., where Incredible Dave's is located? Brandon's BBQ has moved out, and the only food there is a Bearno's, other than Dave's. Otherwise a dead shopping center with tons of parking and visibility.

Hey - my wife and I have been talking about stopping by, and were going tonight. She just dropped my son off for tennis at the tennis club right there but, the Taco Cart is not there!!

Does anyone know if they are on the way to location #3??

Thanks,

Doug, they are closed Mondays. The hours are posted earlier in this thread - even on the days they're open, they don't open until 6 PM. Hope this helps!

Deb - no foot in mouth! it's all cool. It's been my 'hood since childhood so I know way too much about the area. I'm dying to try Juan's food and want to keep him in the area, since the fabled Gordita Trailer is not on the beaten path and I love authentic ethnic foods.
