Our Benedictine recipe was featured in that evil empire Gannet on Derby Day in many of their national papers around the country. We are also the bomb. I've been making it since the old Roppels Catering days, when they were the place to go. I made it once in NYC at Omega Institute and everybody freaked until they tasted it. Good choice on the Benedictine,. How about Frozen Fruit Salad, anybody had except in Louisville, Ky. ?

OMG, Frozen Fruit Salad (with homemade cooked dressing)!!! It was at every luncheon, bridge club, etc. in Hoptown when I was growing up. That and sliced chicken breast on white bread with homemade mayonnaise were a staple. Bill, if you still have a recipe, I would love to do a "re-creation" of this classic for my hometown friends. Thanks for the trip back in time :D

I grew up in North Dakota. Frozen fruit salad (with homemade cooked dressing) was a staple there, too! Just checked and found it in every cookbook but one that I have from home.

Camille Glen's famous cookbook has some of the best selections of classic Kentucky and Southern classics that are out there. The back stories are fascinating as well. The best cookbook ever written was Toulouse Lautrec's cookbook based on private dinners he had and is complete with hand illustrated menus for all the guests. Great narrative conversational recipes, a handful of this, a pinch of that. etc.... Just Awesome.

Having a girlfriend who is a foreigner from Middle TN/Nashville, she's amazed and impressed and in love with the vast selection of fried cod joints here. Fried cod on rye is definitely a Louisville thing.
