If bringing Trader Joes is to the detriment of Whole Foods then I don't see the benefit. But I guess the Trader Joe team of market analysts work for the steak house and sushi restaurants as well who see the Mortons/Jeff Ruby/Eddie Merlot and concentrated sushi joints all downtown as being viable.

Generally I'd agree, but I get the impression that Trader Joe's doesn't come in to a new market without doing very serious research.

They've so adamantly said in the past that they have no plan for Louisville that I'm still dubious. I also thought they typically chose to reuse more urban buildings rather than shopping centers, although I have no expertise - what kind of facilities and neighborhoods are the Cincinnati and Nashville TJ's in?

Don't know about Nashville or Cincy, but my Trader Joe's in NJ 10 years ago was in a small suburban area shopping area ( very like downtown- not mall- St. Matthews).

For those of us who actually have lived in more "hip" cities (Tucson, Portland, Chicago for me), not even having a TJ's makes our city look quite small-town and backwards. Not good for attracting new young talented people.

Wow, so I've been living in this fake city for all these years...I can't wait for a TJ's to validate my city's existence. Really Nimbus...silly statement IMO.

I agree with Kyle, while a TJ's will (see might, if it happens) be nice, anyone who views Louisville as backward / podunk due to the lack of a store here or a particular shop there is pretty ignorant. Probably not the type that would add anything significant to this community.

I have to disagree, Nimbus. I lived my first 26 yrs in Tucson and it seemed anything but hip to me. There is a small part of town that is hip and trendy. But Louisville blows it away in the food and arts scene, IMO.

The TJ in Tucson that I used to go to was in an old grocery store location. I just think the area they're talking about here in Louisville is a really weird choice. The parking in that section is already too much because of the post office. It would have made much more sense to put it in the old Wild Oats or Circuit city location.

Of course it is all subjective.

A critique of Louisville is an entirely different topic, but I have thought about the pros and cons extensively.

I guess we'll have to get a Trader Joes and a pro sports team to REALLY be a trendy city! Although, of course, Montreal, which has no (US pro) basketball, baseball or football teams, and probably not a Trader Joes ( I guess) is among the most innovatative places I've visited in North America. Go figure!

But Montreal refuses to be nice to people because they don't speak English! They are part of that rogue province of Quebec!

Yes, when moving to a new city the first thing most young professionals look for is a Trader Joe's and the number of artists per capita.

Excuse me they have the greatest NHL team ever, The Canadiens. And yes Louisville is sorely lacking a pro sports team, I'm tired of having to drive hours away to see my favorite teams. It's high on the list of reasons I'm relocating.
I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.
