I thought this was still up for debate. From what I have read there is another guy, Arnold Reuben of Reubens Deli in NY that claims it as their own. Having it on the menu back to 1900 or something like that.

The VAPR people deserve credit for taking on the "comfort food with a twist" idea. For being somewhat of a Southern state, there's not enough comfort food options in the city. We must have been forced, by some power, to trade comfort food options for ethnic food options.

I don't want to miscategorize anyone into the "comfort food" category, so I'll stop short of making a master list of options. Chick Inn is right around the corner from me. Not really much of "a twist," but plenty of the comfort.

Comfort food for Ethnic food?

Ever hear of a Greek diner? LOL Greek diners are the epitome of Ethnic comfort food in my opinion.

Not making fun, just pointing something out. That is what we are missing..... but not for long.
That's all I'm saying.

I should have been clear and said I mean "Southern" and/or "American" comfort food.

Nah, it's okay. This thread is all over the place anyway. :D

You might be right, John ... I don't think the origin of the Reuben can be pinpointed as neatly as, say, the Hot Brown.

It's pretty well substantiated, though, that Reubens were popular in Omaha's stockyards district around the turn of the century. I guess it could have migrated there from NYC, but that seems like a heck of a hop in the days before air travel.

It's hard to find one there now, except if you are a Jason's or Schlotzky's.

I went to one of Warren Buffet's "annual meetings", and I had a hard time finding deli.

There is one place called Dundee, but I never actually made it there.

Robin, you can talk about Nebraska all you want.... I was born in NYC with a Rueben sandwich in my mouth. um um LOL

I'm out.

I didnt mean to say I was right, just that a quick google didnt turn up anything conclusive either way. Made for some interesting reading and a good excuse to spend a few more minutes in the AC.
Also off topic...looking forward to trying the Reuben pizza at Corner Cafe sometime.

Boombozz on Bardstown Road did a Reuben pizza for St. Patrick's Day this year. I had to try one. It was okay, but a little heavy for a pizza ...

If one is so attached to the NYC Reuben, it would only seem like one is tempting disappoint to order a reuben anywhere but NYC.

From the Urban Dictionary - She-She-La-La: Meaning that something is very sophisticated, chic, and/or cool. Used in describing places such as restaurants, hotels, parties, etc.

Thanks Steve. Guess it is entirely predictable that I'd be clueless about sophisticated stuff.

Sorry gang, Mr. Pedantic begs to differ. According to the internet tubes (in honor of Ted Stevens), the word is spelled chichi. And I dares you to click the audio pronunciation link.

Hey, No problem Bill. We rustic folks have to stick together.

Not sure if I'd call the place "She-She" but we got the distinct impression on our aborted visit that you could have froze ice on the asses of some of the clientele. Which is probably good should the ice machine ever go out.
