Kim, both Firefox and Google Chrome as "Web browsers." They are free software that you can download from the Internet and install on your computer, and then use them instead of IE to surf the Web. They are similar only different, and it doesn't take too long to learn them once you switch over. Personally, I think (and I think a lot of heavy Internet users agree) that both Firefox and Chrome are better thought-out programs than Internet Explorer; and because so many of the viruses that float around cyberspace are designed to attack Explorer in particular, they may be a little bit safer.

You can find Chrome here:
http://www.google.com/chrome

And Firefox here:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/firefox.html

Not to talk down to you, but if you aren't too much into computers, you might ask a pal or relative who's a computer geek to help walk you through the changeover, if you decide to do it. Then you'll know what to do the next time you want to change. :)

Alternatively, if you feel pretty comfortable working with your computer, I think the Google Chrome page linked above has a VERY clear and concise description of what it is and how to get it. The Firefox link is good, too, but goes into a little more detail.

That's about the size of it, Rob. Calling a post ridiculous is tantamount to calling the poster ridiculous.

I'd respectfully disagree, although it's all in how you handle such comments. I see Rob D's point as "the way you framed your argument is ridiculous." And, really, I can't disagree with him. J Dylan's point, in my opinion, gets graded as "A for effort, but F for execution." Does that mean I think he is ridiculous? Nope. Does it mean I think the presentation of his point is ridiculous? Very much so.

Granted, i think both of the main participants in this battle have been ridiculous at points. That's the nature of forums, although LHB is by far the best and most civilized forum I've ever participated in. But I think part of that is because of the real name policy - which, I think, can lead to someone telling me, "you know, that's a ridiculous argument." That in no way means they think i am ridiculous, I would think.

Seems the issue with the current debate is its no longer about BBQ, opinions about BBQ, or presentation of opinions about BBQ. Seems to be a tit-for-tat for little reason at this point.

Exactly. I'm really not interested in belaboring my policies for this forum, as casual and unwritten as they are. I'm just sayin', you guys have another beer and shaddap already!

I probably placed this in the wrong place, but here it is:

As someone who has used this forum to critique everything from urban planning to restaurant decor, it is hard to decipher when a comment may hurt a person's sensibilities. Any critique is a personal judgment based on taste, experience, knowledge, and with fear of being politically incorrect, socio-economic background.

I have been wounded several times on this forum and have retaliated defensively with wanton intent. Yet, it is the very provocative nature of this forum that makes it so darn interesting! In addition, Robin has opened up this forum to all comers regardless of their so called adroitness when it comes to culinary opinions. Thus, really, no one on this forum is an expert, no one is right, and no one has perfect taste. We share our impressions and wonder if other people agree or disagree. I guess it is important and fair to at least attempt not to hurt someone's feelings.

Thus, everyone can sink their teeth into a hunk of barbecue and decide if it's good or bad. Last I looked, Harvard was not awarding a Ph.D in dry or wet Bar B Q!

Please show me (privately) specific examples of instances where you (as opposed to your opinions) have been personally attacked. If I failed to police or delete a significant personal attack, I'm sorry, but I don't recall that happening during your, erm, sensitive period. (I'm glad a little time in the city and a little time on the forum is helping you resolve our unusual culture, Phil. ;) )

Added by EDIT: I got off on that tangent so fast that I failed to make the good points that Carla did. I do agree with, and appreciate, much of what you wrote.

Well, and quite fairly, said Phil.

Don't worry, Becky. You didn't do anything wrong. Things went south a long way after this train left your station. :D

Keep on posting!

I usually resist the urge to post just a line or two saving my posts for when I have a substantive contribution, but I am simply baffled by the fact this thread is still chugging along.

Yeah, especially since the forum moderator nicely asked that we shut it up several times already. Goes to show you what kind of powers I've got! Of course, I could always "lock" it, but I hate to do stuff like that ...
