I sure hope you're wrong, Wes! Our big magnolia tree is really sketchy. Our electrical power goes through the top of it, which seems fairly safe - but there are a bunch of weak branches dangling over our phone/DSL and cable wires.

For what it's worth, the National Weather Service page for Louisville is a little more reassuring:

Today: Scattered snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 27. West wind between 8 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

9-14, no gusts, is consistent with what we've been having, so cross fingers, knock wood, etc.

I'm worried about the 150 ft tall ginko tree looming over my house. Every time I hear a crack or a crunch, I say my prayers.

Oops, posted on the other forum (Sorry, Robin) already, but does anyone in Germantown/Schnitzelburg have power yet?

We finally got power on at Son of a Sailor yesterday around noon. We are back open now. I'm not calling this stuff snow or ice. I'm calling it sand. It makes me feel better. I hope this is all of the sand we're getting for a while.

I'm right off Southside Dr. and we still don't have power! I should not complain though as we have a gas fireplace to keep us warm and a neighbor who has a gas powered generator. I'm able to run my fridge, lamps, and tv off of it and suprisingly the cable and internet are still up too. And thanks to our gas stove I made what my boyfriend called "the best batch of chili you've ever made" last night. So certainly, it could be much worse for me! I hope everyone else is staying warm.

Asiatique has power, we've been very lucky, had power during Ike too. We've had many people from the neighborhood stop in for a drink, food and to charge their cell phones. We will be open until 1:00 am tonight if anyone wants appetizers or something to take the chill off.

We got power back this afternoon around 1:00. I was shocked, as in Sept, we went 6 days without it. However, I am so relieved - it was so cold in our house, even with the fireplace on in one room. Hard to sleep when it's so cold. I feel for those still without. We have no relatives in town, so nobody to stay with.

As bad as it is in my neighborhood, I'll be shocked if we have power by Monday. It could be so much worse, though. It's cold, but there are many people in much worse shape than me. Stay warm out there, folks.

We lost power last night about 9:30. We're currently at the Blue Mountain Coffee House, Preston and Main. The coffees are fab, the place is beautiful and the WiFi is working. And there's almost no one here. Come on downtown!

We still had no power on Texas near Goss around 5pm tonight. There were work trucks in the area, so we're hopeful for tomorrow.

I live in Woodlawn Park subdivision off Westport Road near Hubbards Lane. We just got our power back tonight around 630 p.m. We were on our way back from Third Avenue Cafe, getting ready to get off at Zorn Avenue to go to my sister's (where we've been staying), when our neighbor called and said we were on. Screeched back onto the expressway and came home to find it was true! Turned up the heat and went back to my sister's to get our stuff and our dogs. Even though I really like my sister and brother-in-law and their dogs and cat, it sure is good to be home, even though it's still chilly!

St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, in your same neighborhood, got power back late Friday. Slowly but surely we're coming out of this one ... after Ike in the fall, it's starting to feel like our city has a target painted on it!

I'm sending this message out , not just to the members of this site, but to the ether in general...

Many many thanks to all of you that helped all of us with out electricity deal with the situation. Thanks to all the drivers that stopped to asked (while I was walking) "Do you need a ride? Are you OK?" Thanks to my fellow work mates that toted me to work and back. Thanks to all the seriously generous people that offered to put me (and my cats!) up while I was without electric . Thanks to those that asked me along when you went out to eat so that I might get out and get a hot meal too. Thanks to the TARC workers, restaurant workers, postal workers and others that put up with the rest of us while we struggled with our outage. Special thanks to the LGE (and in many cases out of town electrical agencies) line worked that worked and continued to work in all the cold and ice to get the job done. Thank you thank you and God bless you all.

And to all of you out there still out of electric hang in there. And if I can help in any way just PM me.

Writing today from Ray's Monkey House. This is a totally cool place! Best Chai in the Metro and I think I've had them all.
