I got a definite from Justin McMillen (Windsor) yesterday. And Feb. 2 works fine. So we can count him in. I haven't kept up with this thread very well (busy holidays), so I might need a bit more info as the date approaches. Best to all!

Just checking- will Hotbytes be mentioned in all the advertising and promation? I know for the Oak St Pizza event all the materials and publicity mentioned us. This forum seems to focusing more on these kind of events and I think the more our name gets attached the more effective the events will become in the future. Robin has provided us with a great way to organize these things in a collective manner and I worry a bit about Hotbytes gettting lost in all the excitement.
If I can help at all with any part of this I am more than willing to participate. Just let me know.
Good going to all.

I think we are calling it "LouisvilleHotBytes annual Shrimp & Grits Throwdown" so wherever it is mentioned so will the site. As for advertising, there is no budget unless the named corporate sponsor would like to place some ads  I know we will get some air time on Louie FM becasue of JJ Jackson and I bet we can get a piece placed in the Leo - again  And for who knows even the CJ may mention it in the Scene.

Will,

I have all the contacts/info for submitting events to C-J, Voice-Tribune, louisville.com and Velocity along with the Leo events section, so I've offered to help with that. ( Interval is too short for Louisville Magazine). Scott Reynolds ( of WHAS) is a neighbor so I'll see if we can get some support from them also( but know that TV media coverage is largely covering the event as is occurs, not publicizing it before hand.)

Anybody else have any connections that might help us spread the word?

I'm ready to try this shrimp and grits thing. I have never had this dish, so what better way to get to try something than going to a throw down !! When the plans get definite, how about a new thread so nobody misses the event. I am excited and can't wait to meet you guys and have some great eats.

Deb,
I have a good buddy who is an WHAS 11 Cameraman, I can have him tell the station, and I can call Rachel Platt.

Other than that... it looks like you have covered everybody.

Have we nailed this stuff down with Robin?

*ahem*

I'd like to formally enter Jeffery Jacobs, one of our cooks at Lou Lou, into the competition - he'd be delighted to participate on 2/2.

The thread has seemed to lose steam! There was a flurry of activity about the throw down, and folks have thrown their hat in the ring but,
there has been no mention of venue, criteria for entry, rules of contest etc.

Maybe I would like to participate, but do not have all the info.

Thanks

Heather,

Traction has not been lost, but unfortunately the communication has turned to PM's between specific folks who are organizing, rather than general postings. I should have realized how this looks to others. I'm really sorry for being one of the culprets.

Venue is Captains Quarters; date is Feb 2nd. We have two celebrity judges and have reached out already to several folks for a third . ( if anyone has someone they think would be great and contact here - please let us know)

Steve/Will/ Robin/ Alan from CQ and I are meeting there this afternoon to hash out some of the most immediate details. I will be posting a poll shortly to get the Forum's input on pricing/willingness to pay for tickets for this charity event.

Input needed on Shrimp and Grits throw down date

by Deb Hall » Tue Jan 06, 2009 4:51 pm

Folks,

We just found out that the U of L /Yukon Game day ( vs. CT) is also on Feb. 2nd at 7:00. Thought from the group meeting at Captain's Quarters is that with the amount of game focus, we most likely need to move our date or risk small attendance. What are your thoughts? Our other options are January 26th ( very soon for publicity) or Feb. 9th ( don't know if everyone judge/competitor is available.)

Please chime in quickly- we need to make this decision fast!

Thanks for your help,
Deb

The Cats don't play any of those nights, so all sound good to me.

I don't personally see the UConn game affecting our attendance too much - what does everyone else think? I vote to leave it where it is. February 9th is mighty close to Valentine's Day, and January 26th is the big Kentucky Restaurant Association Gala.

< huge laugh> Well, you think I would have figured that out when I went to the U of L site to check out who they were playing for the "yukon" game and saw that it was Connecticut... Well, that's the best laugh I've had ( at myself, no less) in the past week...

I'm tempted to edit it out now, but I think I'll leave it for a while so others can laugh at me too...
