No disrespect, Dave, but I ain't drinkin that kool-aid. I'll stand by my statement 100% - I'd prefer to not have to rifle through the idiotic crap he brings aboard.
None taken Jackie! (I was being facetious, and yes...there is a limit to idiotic crap). As for Robert's "chain benefit" argument, I provided NO 401k, NO health insurance (though I was woking on it when I closed), and good but not great wages to my employees but.... ANY ONE OF THEM WOULD HAVE GLADLY TAKEN A BULLET FOR ME AT ANY TIME!! Pride, loyalty, and unwavering passion for our craft is what separates indies from chains (and, of course really big parking lots that, as Robert frequently points out, are always full)

I believe I'll have to come down on Robert's side on this one. Most of the opposing argumements were just designed to attack him.

The lawsuit against the company is a standard one that's being filed in California these days. Companies work people 60 hours a week, classify them as managers and pay them in a way that ends up being less than minimum wage when accounting for overtime. I can't remember the official term, but when I worked at Shoney's years ago that's how they paid managers. Hours over 40 are paid at a rate of about half the minimum wage. We had a derogatory term for it that involved an ethnic slur. California courts have ruled that because these people are working a schedule dictated by the company and have no real authority, they're not managers and can't be classified as such. It's not just restaurants, either. Radio Shack lost a similar suit a few years ago.

I did and now you have put me in the usual bind. Do I take the bait and expand an already worthless thread for you're amusement or do I just let it die a familiar painfull death as so many in the past? Death it is!! On a side note, when is this wretched heat going to end and what happened to spring?

First 100 new jobs is 100 new jobs...Second it will remain hot through mid week...Looks like highs in the lower to mid 90s with heat index around 98 to 100. Slight chance of thunderstorms late tonight through morning mainly across southern indiana...otherwise dry and hot...but at least we have a wind that actually is helping....although it will tend to dry things out....Summer is not even here yet....

But how many of those jobs will contribute to job losses and other restaurants? Considering that due to the economy the number of people dining out is declining I'm sure the answer is many so the net gain if any will be much less.

So what is the point.....We dont want any new bussiness to open because it mught affect someone else....So lets get rid of UPS and just have Fed Ex...Or get rid of Ford and just have GM.....

ding ding ding...we have a winner on why...

Passion is important in what you do. Loyalty is important. Employee satisfaction is important. Some people are willing take less cash to work and be somewhere where they believe in the concept, the people above and below them and generally are happy to go to work there everyday.

OK, I finally broke down and read the whole five pages. Good thing I was "at lunch" and not supposed to be doing anything too productive!
