Ian- this is a thread asking where folks are watching the game, not asking for the best deals. Other restaurant owners don't advertise or post deals here on Hotbytes unless they run it by Robin first. It just seems a bit self serving to me.

Gary, I believe you are correct that actual adverts are supposed to be approved by Robin (and it seems plenty are). However, in this case I think Ian was responding to my request for the best options to view the game. I posted that the $3.75 pints and 50. wings at the BBC tipped the scale for me when weighing my options. Turns out this pricing was only in effect “during the game.” Very lame IMO! Ian's post made me aware of better (non-gimmicky) pricing – albeit too late.

Had I seen Ian's post early enough about the new projection system, I would have loved to watch the game there. In fact, I'm going tonight!

While I don't wish the forum to turn into just an advertising vehicle, I think Ian's post was intended to serve not only himself but those of us who were still looking for some place to watch the game. I appreciate that he was paying attention and trying to serve us. Cheers!

Shane Campbell wrote:Our server (Becca) came around and I knew we were in good hands. I had watched her interact with the table next to us. She had written nothing down and ignored the lout who boasted “I'm a home brewer and I certainly do know what mead is. Its..blah blah blah..” I think I even saw a little eye roll. Becca was calm and appeared to be completely unaffected by the riotous atmosphere in the bar which was being punctuated regularly by loud C-A-R-D-S chants.

When she came over, I was ready. I had checked the BBC's website before I left the house and I ordered two pints of their “Wheat Session IPA.” Chris did his usual “What kind of beer do you have that's most like a Bud Light but not actually a Bud Light because I'm too embarrassed to order a Bud Light even though I would most certainly prefer a Bud Light? I've come to enjoy watching this awkward interplay which frequently results in Chris having to drink several beers that he doesn't really like. I could just tell him what to order but he resents this and likes to interact with the server himself. He too was started with the Wheat IPA. This turned out not to be enough like a Bud Light and so he tried again and found himself drinking a Brown Ale. What is the definition of insanity again?

Priceless! I have experienced many people apologizing for ordering a PBR.

@ Gary, that was a direct response to Shane and his similar comments about BBC pints and the wing specials, which were very similar to what we were offering. We installed a big screen just for the game and I thought I would share that with the forum. Shane is one of our regulars here @ the Exchange which is why I made that response. I'm sorry if you took offense to my "self serving advertisement" on the forum, I guess I should have just PM'd Shane instead. There is a whole lot let "useless knowlege" that gets posted in my opinion on this forum sometimes than the fact that I posted a special for game day. Sorry Robin if I posted something that should have been run by you first, I really wasn't trying to blast an advertisement.

No harm, no foul, Ian. As a general rule, the community here has evolved a general custom that folks in the business should run announcements by me first, and then mention this approval in the post, to hold down "real" spam. It's also a good principle that folks in the business "earn" the privilege by participating as regular participants.

Don't get me wrong, we love to have folks in the business join our conversations - your knowledge and background absolutely add depth to the discussions. And of course people in the business are welcome here, and NOT second-class citizens.

But I see your point about responding directly to Shane's question, and I'm certainly not going to flame you for that.

Ian- I apologize to you, I did not read every post so must have missed the exchange with Shane. I certainly don't want to discourage anyone participating here, Keep posting my friend and keep up the great work at the NA Exchange.
