The traffic was backed up around the ramp and onto the Watterson (the exit/entrance lanes and not the interstate proper). Right or wrong, I blamed Trader Joe's.

That end of town is becoming impossible to travel. I'll go to St. Matthews West and I'll go to Oxmoor, but I skip the section between Hubbards and the Watterson. It's terrible at all hours and adding that Trader Joe's is not going to help anything. Just a poor choice all around.

There's always the back way into that shopping center, I guess...

It's often backed up onto the ramp there. It's rare that it isn't. (in my experience) I really don't blame Trader Joe's for that.

I'm sorry, but can you explain this post? Was I just insulted for going to a store, (and/or explaining what I did/found/saw there) or did I mis-read?

Thanks lots!

I don't know about other folks but I think it gets old getting made fun of/ criticized for spending money at chains .I would like to see how many of us can go a month without spending a penny at anything but a local establishment...I mean a penny...gas, food... anything it would be next to impossible. I like to support the locals but I don't mind the chains either.

Not to speak for Roger, Christina, but I think he was on his standard spiel about chains, not attacking you personally. :)

I think we all were...

I spend what I can at Rainbow Blossom, but TJ's is definitely going to help our budget. It's not nearly as convenient though.

I propose all threads dealing with chains be marked with *NSFR* (Not Safe For Roger) in the title, so he can be spared the horror of reading them.

After doing some business at the St Matthews P.O., I followed the crowd (literally) and dropped into TJ's for a look-see...(IMO) it doesn't appear to have the ambiance of a "Whole Foods" or "Fresh Market"...rather non-descript...but they have the reputation for offering many hard-to-find items...at a glance, pricing didn't appear to be significantly higher or lower than competitors - it varied with specific items...many carry the "Trader Joe's" brand, while others are less well-known names. But, the joint was jumpin' - we'll see if it lasts.

Trader Joes is the hipster version of Aldi's and thats not a bad thing, they use the same design philosophy and business model, limited number of items for sale, lots of store branded items. Good quality and in the case of Aldi's lower prices than Walmart. As they are both owned by the Albrecht family, its not surprising that they are similar. I like both places Aldi's has some Teutonic goodness and Trader Joes has that "look at this cool stuff I found" kind of ambiance.

Trader joes quality of food is much higher than Aldi's My mom shops at Aldi's and some of the food like substances she brings home is down right chemical loaded garbage. I went to Trader joes for the first time yesterday and was amazed by the quality of good wholesome food for very decent prices. They don't have the selection of whole foods but I will be doing the bulk of my shopping there from now on.

I came across one of the two remaining bridges on Saturday for the express purpose of shopping at ear X-Tacy ... and got there in time to know the patient had expired in my absence. Not even a chance to say goodbye.

My spiel? Standard anti-chain, and pickled garlic in a Bloody Mary works for me.

I make no apologies for reacting viscerally to adoration for chains, which live when the ear X-tacy's of the world go down in defeat. I'm an independent, and I live and die by that sword, just like John Timmons. For more, kindly read my blog: http://cityofnewalbany.blogspot.com/2011/10/as-sad-as-it-gets-when-business-dies.html

I think ear-X-tacy's closure, while very sad, has less to do with chains than to do with the way music is sold changing from physical to digital form. I'm not sure any of the chain music stores are selling very much media right now either.

Independence.

Independence.

I understand Tower went down, too, but that's not the point to me. Another link, seeing as I'm a bit impaired to type:
