Many other cities have such organizations, akin to similar ones for restaurants, but I don't know of one in Louisville (and if there is one, clearly it's pretty ineffective). Local businesses need to do a better job of banding together, especially in this continuingly-difficult recession.

I agree.

By the way, Nach Bar won their zoning/ABC/PITA case today!

I thought it was a zoning hearing, not a lawsuit, but that's great! That front patio is great on beautiful days like today.

I would respond that well...you chose your career path..

Fine. I don't accept the fact simply because you lived in a factory town as a valid reason to dislike serving alcohol till 4am. I worked till 2 am on occasion and was glad to have some place to unwind after work. Even though I am no longer in the business, I still feel it's very important for people to have this option. You may not like it, but other people enjoy it. And they don't have to substantiate the need for being out so late. Nor do they have to feel guilty about being "in the business".

First off Kyle...Don't go putting words in my mouth. I never said I "disliked" bars staying open until 4 a.m. What I said was that I couldn't understand the need for bars to stay open until 4 a.m. There is a difference...and no, I'm still not of the opinion that shift work by itself is a significant enough reason to do so... Not when you weigh all the pros and cons. It's an opinion,

Secondly, no one (except you) said or implied anything about "feeling guilty" about being "in the business". This is a food forum and therefore I used that particular line of work in my example. If this were a forum about steel mills or auto plants and we were having the same discussion I would have used those lines of work in my example. So don't go reading interpretations into my remarks that weren't intended and then presenting them as if they were mine.

Hey Steve, any chance your trying to quit smoking again?
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

In other words. You disapprove. Or dislike. Call it whatever you'd like, Steve. I'll call it like I see it.

isn't suppose to make someone feel guilty? Ok, Steve.

Bottom line, Steve. I'm not going to agree with anything you are trying to say and it's apparent you don't care. I've said everything I needed to say on the subject.

Good luck quitting smoking.

Wow, Steve ~ you party pooper! I've taken HUGE advantage of our city's 4am policies in the past, and it was deffffffinitley because of the hours I worked. I never felt entitled to it, because I knew for sure that most of our neighboring cities didn't have the same luxury. Did I gloat about it to my out-of-town friends - you bet. They're ALL jealous, trust me.

Not sure if you are showing your habit angst here, Stevo, or if you really don't have the right perspective about the subject. My bottom line is that we're spoiled compared to a lot of other cities, but I think they may as well catch up with our awesome culture. Could it be part of the reason we have such a strong restaurant scene? Because those running the restaurants here have a life outside of work? Just thinkin' out loud. Places are open this late because the public supports it.

Oh yeah - and major congrats to the Nachbar on their big win! Love those guys.

Stevo, I had a sudden pang of guilt for calling you a party pooper, and the question occurred to me: Have you ever lived in urban neighborhoods? I'm not assuming one way or another, but I'm having a hard time understanding why a party animal such as yourself would poo-poo the party. I just had this revelation that people that choose to live near the bright city lights would be more "into" the late-night-life. Where do I stand in this?

Is anyone here going to attend/testify at the hearings?

I don't know, Bill - are you keeping tabs?

I would happily do anything in defense of the Monkey wrench if I were asked to. Ain't nothing wrong with good intentions.

If you wanted it to remain what it was, you should have bought it. But I tend to be a nearly 100% property rights absolutist (there are some reasonable restrictions, health and safety reasons primarily, but noise would actually be one too, as it should be contained to the property at reasonable levels). For this reason, I dont understand the concept of limiting the number of liquor licenses (or closing hours, for that matter).

All sorts of people don't work 9-5 any longer, and for that matter, there's now all kinds of people who work from home.

I say this as I hope you didn't mean to slur people who can stay out late as people who don't work for a living.
