As an aside...back when I was doing the air traffic control thing I worked with a woman who was (shall we say) having a bad day...and you could hear it in here voice. Well she was trying to vector a Delta L1011 in behind a United 767 and the Delta pilot keep ignoring her and didn't take the turn. She finally stood up and shouted into the mic "Delta 231 WHY WON'T YOU ACKNOWLEDGE ME"...To which this soft southern drawl replied "Maam, I'm just trying to figure out of your my ex ol' lady before I take that turn".

Good thing we don't have an "assho**" emoticon or people would be throwing those my way on a regular basis.

We do not have, and are not likely to get, a graphic emoticon. However, the old typographic emoticon for this function is well established: (*)

Okay, sure. It was Le Gallo Rosso. I sure as heck miss Melillo's. The girls wanted Italian. I wish now I had gone to Ray Parella's. This retauarant is rather small with 3 rooms. We sat in the back room. As I stated, I made reservations through opentable because I was on the road at that time. Funny thing, I was using an opentable didning check and the waiter said "he had never heard of this" and would have to verify it. I would think that a restaurant which uses opentable would inform their wait staff about the program. That way, you don't make your customer feel like a total geek or a cheat.

The restaurant is in a VERY small, narrow "old house". The entire middle room was filled with the Wednesday night screamers. In fact, every time the waiter went in there he had to clap or whistle to shut them up so he could take orders or announce the specials. If we had been seated in the front by the window, it wouldn't have been quite as bad. I was just saying, when we walked in and THEY seated us, could they have not mentioned that a HUGE group was coming in 20 min later? Wouldn't that be better than making us MOVE mid meal? This is really an eye opening thread for me. It wasn't like we were in Z's or Ruth Chris. This was a tiny place at 6 pm on a Wednesday.

But go ahead and tell me it's all my fault.....

Linda, it seems that you keep repeating the situation, day and time, etc. But, you are not really responding or answering any of the responses you have received here. The main one being:

why did you not ask to be moved? or express your feelings to someone?

It seems as if you just really want someone to agree with you, instead of respond to your question.

No, its not your fault. No one has said its your fault. Being it was not one of the "finer" dining establishments in Louisville I would expect more of this behavior. It's an Italian place. People always seem to get loud in casual Italian places. Must be the vino. I'm sure sitting next to the loud, drunk, senior citizans was annoying, but it could be much worse. At least you are getting to dine out with family. You could all be out of work, looking for the next dollar to cook your own meal. Like the others have said, you could have asked to move.

Now to the question. I don't think the restaurant should have warned you of the table coming in, but should have offered to move you if the group was as loud as you are saying. If the waiter is having to scream over them, then common sense should tell the management the group may be to loud for the other patrons and offer alternative seating.

For golly's sake, i play the calliope on the Belle and work in rock bands. I know loud. Okay, it's my fault for not moving. I get that. But realize I was with a 15 and 19 year old who would have been horrified if I made any complaint. Do any of you have teens?

Okay...just one more comment. I get it that you think it's my fault and my mistake. However, if I had complained, my kids would have left me on Bardstown Road to walk home.

I not the biggest fan of Jeff Ruby's food. However, The times that we have been to his restaurants, it seems there is a "science" to where they place people. We had an older group of folks for a reunion and they placed us at the quiet back of the room. They even escorted the older ladies to the restroom. They place customer satisfaction above any other thing. I bet we would have not had this issue in some other places.

I'm not sure where you are getting that folks are saying anything's your "fault". You didn't ask us whose fault it was. You asked us for our feedback on whether it was the restaurant's responsibility to tell you when they seated you that there was going to be a large party seated soon. We gave you that feedback! And you keep saying you could have been seated out back - even though you specifically said you did not want to eat outside due to allergies!

They could have moved you, and should perhaps have moved you even if you didn't ask them to if the party was truly obnoxious. But you didn't ask "should they have moved us?" you asked "should they have told us in advance?"

I also stated that we could have been seated in the front by the window.

My answers:
1) No
2) It would have been nice if the wait would have offered to move you, but if you didn't say anything, I'm not sure how they would have known to.
3) Yes, I have teenagers. Are you saying the restaurant should have known that you would find it embarrassing to ask to be moved, so they should have initiated it? I bet they would have been very accommodating had you asked.
