At the Occidental Restaurant (formerly the Occidental Grille) in Washington, DC, there is a booth affixed with a small plaque identifying as the spot where former ABC correspondant John Scali secretly met with KGB Col. Alexsandr Fromin to conduct some back-channel negotiations during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962...it was these meetings at the Occidental which many believe eventually led to a peaceful resolution of the crisis....I see a similar marketing opportunity for Porcini's.....("piece-full resolution"?)..... sorry.

People get a kick out of being at a place where "Washington slept here". Nothing wrong with a sign saying that Ricky ......... here.

I think the city should put one of those historic plaques out front commemorating this historic action.

The only problem with this idea is, Rick has been doing this for years. Nothing new here!

A couple of quotes that fit .. "hot social spot" and "only at Porcinis"

Steve,

I watched that last night, too. Those quotes also caught my attention.

I don't think it's those "mussels" that people are finding so offensive.

I'm sure it's not. But in my opinion, the people that IT does bother are being prudish and shit stirrers. There is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo much that goes on in restaurants that normal patrons don't have a clue about. I've seen managers do lines of coke back in kitchens. I've known wait staff to "get it on" in the walk in. It really is NOT a big deal. People are only making it a big deal because he's "famous".

This is not our business. Nothing that happened in a restaurant SIX YEARS ago should be used to make snide remarks about cleanliness. Nobody comments upon a restaurant where a diner became ill and vomited six years ago.

This mess became public when this woman tried to blackmail Pitino and he stood up to it. Ten million dollars? Please.

Sorry, but this is between Pitino and his family and the rest of us should butt out.

Wrong . It IS my business. If Tim Coury gave him the keys knowing full well what was going down, then he's a sleaze, IMO. If Pitino is an owner then I really have an issue and will not go back, because his actions were immoral in my book. I wouldn't support any restaurant owner whose morals and actions I abhor. Ditto for any other business. My business goes to people who work for my business and I have my own morals clause. Period. I feel bad for John Plymale. He's a class act.

Eeesh. Touchy subject, I guess. I'll leave out comments on the situation, but as far as Porcini, it of course not keep me from going there. What it has done, and probably done for many people, was put that restaurant in the front of my mind. I tend to forget about it. Though I won't go until this fades away (I resisted saying 'blows over' ), because I think it will be more crowded for a while.

Ms. Linda C: With all due respect, (and I don't mean to ruffle feathers or anything), it would be interesting to know exactly what sort of morals test is administered to companies before you do business with them. Can you please tell us what other establishments have violated your morals clause (or, it might be easier to list the one or two which maybe haven't violated). Have you done business with Porcini's wihin the last six years, even though this failure to comply with your morals clause took place before then? If so, will you be asking for your money back since the failure to meet your standards was concealed for the last however long it was?

You get to do or not do business with whomever you wish, for any reasons you wish and you are right that his actions were immoral. Which, I believe, is between him and his family and his God.

I know the answers to these questions are none of my business. Just being nosey. :?

I'll answer your question, sure. I think it's wrong for a guy to allow his married friend to have sex with a woman he just met at his place. I don't give my business to a local restaurant owner who called the antismoking league nasty names. There are other ways to show your opinion. Ditto for someone in this town I used to work for, but I'm not going to name him. Do you realize there are drug stores which refuse to dispense birth control? I think that is wrong and I wouldn't do business there. I can go on. I quit buying Kellogg's after the Michael Phelps incident. When Cherry Hill Winery in Oregon fought the wine shipping regulation for KY, we bought a case from them. It works both ways. You earn business by earning repect as well. Don't you ever feel passionate about doing the right thing?

Can't really agree. It's gossipy, and you'll note that I haven't had a lot to say myself. That's my choice. But this is international news involving a very public Louisville figure and a very popular Louisville eatery. I'm not about to demand that folks shut up if they want to talk about this, or even make jokes about it. Shutting down the topic on the LouisvilleHotBytes forum isn't going to take Pitino's name out of USA Today or The New York Times.

I also like what Linda C. said. :)
