He said he was there on a Thursday night, and that the website said they're open until 2 am on Thursday.

You have to read my posts, Kim. He told me in his last post that he was there on thursday but his original post was written on thursday morning and stated that he was there the night before. That means he was wrong in his post to me telling me it was thursday, because he cant be there thurday night if the post was written 12 hours before on thursday morning. We have facts that he could not have been there on thursday. He was there wednesday. Go to the very start of the thread and look at the date and time posted. It says thu at 11:25 AM.

We have established that you were in fact there on Wednesday Jeremy, for you couldn't have been there on a thursday night and write the post on a thursday morning stating you were there the previous night. It was a while back so I will disregard that. So now all we need is the restaurant website so we can check the Wednesday closing time and then I can see if Joey had a point or not. I figured he would supply such a time for closing but instead chose to be verbose and mispell big words that nobody uses. Im messing with him of course. :P

John, you are so right. I found my receipt and was there on Wed. Your logic is spot on. Their website has them posted to close at 10:30. I arrived at 9:45. My credit card was ran at 11:27. Feel free to pass judgement as you see fit.

I hate you. haha! No Im kidding. Shame on both. So I take from this that they should have been more cordial when you showed up 45 minutes before closing which is plenty of time to eat and you shouldnt have stayed so long past the closing but they also shouldnt have been so eager to ask you to leave. Im not saying out the door at 10:30 but it just seems excessive to stay so long knowing of the closing hours and after getting THAT reception. If I were your server, I would have smiled and told you to take your time and hope that you would decide to leave for my sake. If I were a manager, I would not ask you to leave but would be passive aggressive and start cleaning everything and giving you not so subtle hints. Case closed I say. :P

I dont see why anyone is trying to give validity to this servers actions... its not uncommon for patrons to "lolligag" way past a closing time... Yeah, that sucks for employees. but thats the kind of grumbling you do in the kitchen or server stations, not to the customers!!

well, what does a restaurant's closing time mean? Does it mean:

(a) You must be finished and out the door by that time;

(b) You will be seated up until that time and allowed to stay as long as it takes to have a full meal there;

(c) You will be seated up until that time, but if it's close to that time you must order a single course, or quickly prepared items, and eat them as quickly as possible?

When I was in the business, our closing time meant (b) and although it sucked on a Friday night to be there until 12:30 to wait on a table that walked in right before 11, my manager always had an option available for those servers who showed any animosity about it.

i usually take a closing time to mean that's when the kitchen closes.. not "everybody get up and leave!"

I have always used closing as a courtesy time to not show up and ask for a table. I would seat people that showed up 2 minutes before. It was no problem. I saw it as fair. I just didnt like it when they decided to throw a party and chill out for hours. That doesnt mean that I would treat them wrong but I may ask them to leave if they are there a very long time after the doors closed to patrons or start cleaning to get them to make a decision to leave and then act like I didnt want them to go. But I took it as any job. Any job there is times when you have to stay late. No biggie. Its no reason to treat people bad, warrants a lot of behind the back ranting though. The problem is you dont really get paid overtime so if I come in late and stay past closing I tend to double the tip, if they treated me right.

As a patron, if I dont feel as if there is enough time for me to eat without rush, I will not go in. In Jeremy's case, I would go in with 45 minutes. 30 minutes or less in a nicer place isnt going to happen though. I would just move on.

since we have determined that it is asiatique, maybe looi or pabs will chime in to let us know what the posted hours mean to them. it will certainly help me determine whether i will choose asiatique as an option if i should ever have the craving for dinner after the accepted hour of 9 p.m.

I've almost always assumed closing time was the time at which seating ended, but I've always shied away from going to a restaurant less than an hour before they close anyway, thereby avoiding any problems.
