Can you only attend if you cook something? Are reprobates like myself allowed in?

Reprobates are entirely welcome, Phil. Otherwise, how could *I* come!?

Seriously: At forum throwdowns, a few people pick up the challenge and offer to cook their version of a dish in competition. Everyone else comes and eats it. A selected panel of eminently qualified judges selects a winner based on points, but - this time, probably - the assembled masses will also vote on a crowd favorite.

We'll have a reasonable admission fee, most of which will go to benefit a food-related charity to be announced.

So, how much of this would someone need to make?

I think this would get a lot more response if we could get an answer to my earlier post regarding who can participate/judge? Is it for pros only or amatuers also? Are the judges going to be pros/celebs or people's choice? If one enters, how much would we have to make and what else would the participants have to provide? I may be interested on an amateur level if I had more details.......

Some of this stuff is hard to answer until things form up more. Participants will have to make enough to plate for probably three judges, and enough to give little tastes to everyone who comes. If BLT and Shrimp & Grits are any example, that could be 50 to 100 people. We'll set an entrance fee low enough not to be a barrier, although we do want to raise a few bucks for a cooking/culinary-related non-profit beneficiary.

Since chix & dumps is a down-home dish and since we only have three pros who've signed up so far, I'm inclined to throw the doors open to amateur chefs and say we'll have all compete as peers - no separate pro and am divisions.

I'm not at all crazy about the idea of celebrity judges. What do celebs know about food? We'll pick three forumites with taste buds. I'll be happy to be one of the judges.

Any other questions?

Didn't the chef from Selena's at Willow Lake Tavern also express the desire to participate in this throwdown?

Just want to confirm that everything really is set with Bret. He hasn't commented since his post about what charity. Hey Bret - is it fer real a go at yer place man? (yuk, yuk, yuk) LOL
I'm toying with the idea of being an amatuer participant. Just gotta have more details before commiting. One more question, will the club provide chafing dishes to keep the dishes warm or would we have to provide our own serving supplies? Thanks!

Just to recap, in case I'm not clear on something, did we settle on May 19 at Standard CC for this event? If so, please allow me to volunteer for any kind of work that may to be done. (Other than hauling anything in my car - no room.)

Hey guys, my apologies - been a busy week here, as for most of you, I am sure.

Yes, we are confirmed for Standard C. C. as the location. I am going to try to get a meeting out here with Robin and any other interested volunteers so we can decide on table arrangements, etc about a week before the event.

Back to the kitchen - Derby prep awaits. We'll get back into this Monday or Tuesday, for sure.

Okay, guys, is there room for another contestant? Mac McBride - Sullivan University/Lexington - formerly Old Stone Inn, wants to compete. He asked me to make the initial inquiry. Let me know if there is room.
