Sweet Surrender is up and running. We got power back this morning.

People are welcome to come in and charge cell phones and such. It's cold out there!

Surprisingly, we didn't lose power or cable, even though Bonnycastle and the surrounding streets look worse than after the windstorm. A large falling tree branch got in a fight with my car and put a pretty substantial softball sized dent in my front fender.

My sister-in-law and her family are sans power (Crescent Hill area), so they're crashing with us for the foreseeable future. I think their young kids are getting a bit of cabin fever 9 floors up in our condo, but we took them to Cherokee Park yesterday for some fun and everyone is staying warm and fed. I had to return to the office today, and it sounds like my off-from-school-teacher-wife is having her hands full with them today (their parents are both physicians, so they had to return to work).

All I can say is that our trip to Nasvhille this weekend is sounding better and better. Maybe some of this mess will be cleaned up when we get back on Sunday, but doubtful. I'm hearing rumors of the possibility of another good-sized snow next week. . .

Regarding what's open, we had coffee and snacks at Ray's, so they're open. Take-out from Kashmir last night, so they're open. Cumberland Brews was also open, as was Za's I think. It looked like Qdoba was closed yesterday, and no answer at Ramsi's last night. I'm not sure about today.

Brad, I'm heading to Indy......can hardly wait......even though they have a bit more snow than we do, it's getting outta dodge for a couple of days.

Drive safe my friend.

I am the slacker, I worked by myself while Eric watched t.v. and hung out. Gumbo's too difficult to execute while "saving" labor cost.

Asiatique never lost power and has been open every night. I would have posted this info earlier although I am not as fortunate to have such said "power" until going to my brother's house today.

Side note: Asiatique does not usually lose power, must have something to do with the location.

Both of The Original Impellizzeri's have been open all week. No internet at the Brownsboro store and we had no HD tv for the UL game yesterday.

Heard today that it is going to be very windy Friday morning, 20 mph winds. I'm afraid it may bring down more limbs/trees that are covered with ice. Could lead to more power outages.

I sure hope you're wrong, Wes! Our big magnolia tree is really sketchy. Our electrical power goes through the top of it, which seems fairly safe - but there are a bunch of weak branches dangling over our phone/DSL and cable wires.

For what it's worth, the National Weather Service page for Louisville is a little more reassuring:

Today: Scattered snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 27. West wind between 8 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

9-14, no gusts, is consistent with what we've been having, so cross fingers, knock wood, etc.

Westport General Store will be open tonight. The road to Westport has been cleaned and we are ready to roll! Saturday night starting at 7pm we have Swing Shift playing. They play all the American song book stuff.

Thanks

Jackson's Organic Is up and running full steam now. Yay! Our friends @ The VolksDoctor ploughed our lot and made it accessible. Thanks guys.

I wouldn't recommend anyone driving in this weather, if they can avoid it, but if you're out there anyway. Stop by for a hot cup of organic coffee. We'd love to serve you.

I'm sure a lot of small businesses have taken another beating this week so let's hope the weather gets better soon.

Again...Hang in there Louisville.

Sheltowee Farm Deliveries Cancelled for the week

by RebeccaWebb » Fri Jan 30, 2009 10:48 am

Sheltowee Farm is unable to make deliveries to Louisville this week. We lost power at the farm on Tuesday. While it did come back on, the systems did not behave themselves and we had a rain forest in the oyster mushroom building for awhile. All is getting back to normal; however, we also have a creek to cross before getting back to the farm. Billy walked in on Thursday - a mile back through the fields. We did not bring mushrooms back to Lexington because this would require him to canoe them across the flooded (COLD!!!) stream.

We hope everyone is doing ok and hopefully will see everyone next week.
