Then they add half of a lamb and boil for a long while. The end result is what they call "barbacoa". Sorry I can't be more specific on the preparation, but it is tradition for them to make it overnight and serve around 11am on special occasions. I am only around for the end result. Typically we eat with corn tortillas, various types of salsa, avocado, onion, cilantro, and lime. They take the broth from the barbacoa and make a soup they call "consume", which contains veggies. It is also garnished with lime, cilantro, and onion. Anyway, when they say barbacoa they are referring to the preparation and end result.

The last time I ordered the barbacoa I was told it was a slow mover and they were no longer making it.

Dark, locked up, and a for rent sign hanging. Sad news for this taco lover.

La Rosita on Westport Road - it's a grocery with a taqueria in the back. It's the real deal.

Mi Patria will be sadly missed.

I'll need to give La Rosita a try sometime soon.

A strong alternative to Mi patria, that I've found, is El Mariachi. It is near Champs / Lagrange Rd / Whipps Mill area. Great tacos...try the choriqueso taco (chorizo, queso blanco, grilled onions and avacado) and lengue...good stuff.

Justin, the Latin grocery next door sells fresh tortillas, has a large meat counter, and on the weekends the have Barbacoa!

I ditto El Mariachi. It's our go-to for authentic Mexican. Stock up on hispanic grocery supplies next door and buy fresh house-made tortillas at the bakery in the same strip ( dirt cheap!) .

Damn, this was one of my favorite places to eat lunch in the city, and is the first time in a while that I can remember a place that I enjoyed so much closing.

I guess I will take my taco business to La Rosita as well, but Mi Patria/La Jugada will be missed
