No, in the past they've been in-group events for the forum. The concept seems to be taking off, however, and (speaking corporately for LouisvilleHotBytes), I have always taken the position of generous support for local charitable events, especially those involving the local food-and-drink community.

I think this throwdown will generate some media interest particularly in January. CD

It is not set in stone yet but we do need it to be a Monday and no sooner than that. Shoot out some dates and lets see how it works out.

Well, there's only so many Mondays between January 27 and February 2nd - LOL! Y'all go ahead. I'll just try to get more involved in the next one. BTW, I could judge, I just wouldn't have time to prepare to cook - but it looks like it's been decided all celebrity judges?

JJ can do it on the Jan 26th or Feb 2nd. Robin, what do those dates look like for you? Either is good for Steve and I. Can Ed and Marsha participate on Feb 2?

By my calculations we have contestents from
Baxter Station
Son of A Sailor
Westport General Store
Dan Thomas
Justin Mcmillan from the Windsor
Captains Quarters
Stephen D
Mandy R

Am I leaving anyone out?

Please do not change the date for me if all those other people had previously agreed upon the 26th! I just couldn't figure out where/how that many people signed on for that date, because I couldn't find the discussion in the thread. Full steam ahead!

This may already have been decided as well, but - will the judging be heavily weighted towards "originality", like the BLT contest in the fall?

Marsha,
My apologies. I guess we broke an unspoken protocol and picked the date without discussion as a way to get the ball rolling. We felt too much talk and we could be talking about till spring. Lets have a vote on the two dates and then go from there.

Will, no need for apologies. I felt the same way about picking a date for the Christmas Caroling offline (schedule it and they will come), just because it was so close to Christmas - unfortunately I caused a lot of folks to drop out because they just didn't have that day free and we ended up with a fun, but much smaller crowd than we'd hoped for. I have absolutely no desire to stop the momentum you guys have rolling, I think it's great! It's not about me at all. Please accept MY apology for my disingenuous phrasing ("did I miss the discussion"), that probably seemed catty.

Have we settled on a venue? I guess all dishes are being prepared off-site, so we don't necessarily need a stove, but having participated at a food event where there were no kitchen facilities before, I can say that it's a lot more comfortable for the contestants if they have access to sinks and water, etc. That being said, I still loved every minute of the BLT challenge, so don't get your feelings hurt, David Pierce of the BBC Taproom! (where IS that guy lately?) :P

I move that we except the Captain's Quarters offer and do it on the February 2nd. We have to nail down the date and we have got the OK from everyone but Robin on the date change. Like Deb said, it will work out better for advertising the event.

Feb. 2nd sounds great!

Anybody know when Lent/Mardi Gras are this year- there might be an angle there as a pre-Mardi-Gras event ( or am I stretching it?- Shrimp & Grits says N'Orleans to me)

I can't wait to see what people come up with- it sounds like a great time.
Just checking- will Hotbytes be mentioned in all the advertising and promation? I know for the Oak St Pizza event all the materials and publicity mentioned us. This forum seems to focusing more on these kind of events and I think the more our name gets attached the more effective the events will become in the future. Robin has provided us with a great way to organize these things in a collective manner and I worry a bit about Hotbytes gettting lost in all the excitement.
If I can help at all with any part of this I am more than willing to participate. Just let me know.
Good going to all.
