To bad there's no way to subscribe to a thread without actually having to post to it. Many other forums I participate in have this option and in some cases it's nice to have.

Mark, I haven't played around with "subscribing" at all, but I'll take a look at it. Some of this stuff can be set by the admin, but I'm not even familiar with the "subscribing" concept. Give me a little time to scope it out and I'll report.

I love it except for one thing: I miss the "Next Thread" and "Previous Thread" links! It's a pain to go back to the forum index to go to the next post. It isn't a big deal, but I'll have to change my surfing style.

A couple of people have mentioned this on the Wine Forum, Paige. The thing about open source software development is that it's done by a committee, and this can be both a good thing and a bad thing. I'm not sure why they dropped it from the new edition. Do note, though, that you have links at both the top and bottom of every thread that will take you back to the top of the forum, so one hopes there's not too much clicking or scrolling involved to go back.

Also, we'll keep an eye out for this as possible mods and updates are announced.

I suspect the phpBB committee, as it were, dropped this functionality because these links created alternative URLs for topics (e.g., "t=197&view=next", "t=198" and "t=199&view=previous" showing the same topic). This can cause issues for search engine optimization.

I corrected it in my branch of phpBB 2.0 by redirecting "view=next" and "view=previous" links to the actual topic, so that search engine spiders won't try to collect multiple different URLs for each topic page. Searches are optimized when there's only one true URL path to each topic page.

Will you post a link to the old, old forum (pre-phpBB)? I'm talking about the DANNY MAC'S ROCKS forum :)

Is that stuff still around?

Thanks to Doogy for the quick link.

I really would like to replicate the whole battery of links we had on the old setup, but the new space doesn't accommodate it as easily. We do want to put at least a few key outside links somewhere on the home page, but it's a lower-priority fix, meaning Real Soon Now. :)

Why you're doing it a link to the restaurant reviews will be most appreciated too!

That list is okay, but because it's manually updated, it is not entirely current (to say the least).

For RECENT reviews, simply hit the LouisvilleHotBytes home page,
http://www.louisvillehotbytes.com

and fill in a keyword or two in the search engine space near the upper right.

Robin, I've got your site bookmarked. I was just saying that have and the link on the top of the forum was helpful!
