How many of 'em look like dirty ol' men who might be fascinated by a friendship with a female contortionist?

Well, no wonder she got bent out of shape.

That said, it's clear that from the start that she wanted attention. Let's not give her any more of it.

Well I said this thread made me want to go back to the Rover and we did today for lunch. I had a scotch egg for an app, Hubby and DS had Bubble and Squeak for apps. then for entrees I had the Fish Cakes, Hubby had the Guinness Stew and DS had the breakfast plate as we were there during brunch hours. Total was a very reasonable 42 dollars after a pint of Guinness for DS, soda for Hubby and Tea for me rounded up to 50 with tip. Service was great and Siobhan stopped by the table to check on things. :D

Bev, We were also at the Rover for lunch today--the 2 geezers sitting at the bar!!! Sorry we weren't able to recognize each other but, as always, we had great food and enjoyed the wonderful ambiance. Fantastic place!

Sorry We missed you Carol. It had to have been close to 10 years since we had been to the Rover, so it was a treat. We need some kind of Hot bytes buttons or secret ribbons to identify ourselves when we are out... :D

Chiming in to say that the owner of Rover has never been anything but extremely kind and generous to me and anyone I've been there with. In fact, at any inkling that something may be slightly wrong with the order, he has come to the table personally to assure that it'd be taken care of quickly.

I have catered for the owners of the Rover and they are amazing people with big hearts and obviously good business sense. In this industry we try our best to accommodate every guest, however, sometimes people are so emotional about whatever is going on inside their heads. I have had a guest at a different place I have worked at get so upset because he was drunk and wanted to fight someone that he chose to place his anger on me and I had to have him drug out by the police. This was an every day regular guest and it hurt me to see him be banned for life but sometimes that is the way things go. You can only react so much to every situation before you have had enough.

Usually when a four-page or more thread erupts it is politically motivated. Nice to see this one defending a local institution.

I have never gotten bad service at the Irish Rover... EVER. The owner and his wife are delightful... and I can't imagine them ever getting cross with a customer. I had a problem once and it was PROMPTLY taken care of and they were very kind and generous (yes I'm the one who likes all sauce on the side... and always order it that way) got food drowned in sauce... being a diabetic it's easier for me to gauge how much I've ingested that way... anyone who's struggled with dietary issues can understand the devil's in the sauce.

I do sympathize with the lady's loss... I lost my Aunt this February and eating out at her favorite restaurants has somewhat been diminished. I don't taste the good food or enjoy the atmosphere... all I hear is my Aunt's laughter and joy that I miss and it is hard...I know that she would not want me to feel that way but at one particular restaurant I can look at the table we always sat at and see my grandmother, my dad, and my aunt exactly where they last sat. The first couple of times I've ate out since the food seemed heavy and did not settle well on my stomach... it has gotten better.

I pray she get's the comfort she needs and finds peace.

Wisdom.

You can catch people on bad days in this Industry- sometimes it's not your fault and that's OK. You wash the hurt off and welcome them back. It's what we do.

As crazy at it may sound, I think the fine folks at the Rover wouldn't blink twice at having her back in.

It's what we do.

Love some Irish Rover! Spent several lunches over the past year planning our trip to Ireland. Even got some tips on where to go in Belfast. Can't imagine, if something really was bad, that Michael and the staff would have handled it with anything but grace and courtesy.
